Hello and HAPPY FRIDAY! It looks like it’s going to be another beautiful day here in Maine.
Yesterday I went outside with my shopping bag in hand to scrounge around for some twigs to build a fire in the wood stove. And well, one thing lead to another and before I knew it I had my pruners and a rake out there and was yelling for the HH to come help me.
Not get twigs, but to cut the scraggily brush and saplings that had come up along the edge of the of the property this year.
I swore I was done with gardening projects for the year… but well, that didn’t last long. Even the HH was like what happened to you staying in your pajamas until next spring? 🙂 I don’t know, once a gardener, always a gardener, right?
But just cleaning up that little stretch, it made me so happy. I do love a good mini project after all.
I don’t think the HH was super thrilled though when I told him the area would look much better if the leaves were raked up and hauled off to the woods.
But look at the difference… The right side of the of our little forest of birch trees that we worked on yesterday looks much more tidy and picturesque than the left. I guess that means we’ll be back out there today to finish up the project… just as soon as we take a few old lady pills that is. 🙂
I haven’t even begun to think about what we’re going to do with the rest of the yard. But with an entire winter to figure it out, all I can say is this… the possibilities… are endless, and I couldn’t be happier.
Wishing you the very best on this gorgeous fall day,
~Mavis

I can see why you hubby was excited for the riding lawn mower that came with the house!
Joely says
That wide open space is exhilarating!
Peg says
This has nothing to do with your post, but I received the ornament yesterday that I ordered from your Etsy shop! Can’t say what it is because the person who it’s for also reads your blog. It was the last one in stock if that rings a bell . I think she’ll love it.

You guys need to get a leaf blower… they’re great for blowing off the patio, too!
Virginia says
Exactly. That was my first thought once I saw the size of that beautiful yard. Hauling leaves with a tarp will get old real fast. My hubby has a large commercial riding mower and backpack style blower. Expensive, but the yard gets done very quickly.
Lace Faerie says
I asked for a leaf blower last birthday. Not to blow the leaves away, but to vacuum them up and to apply them chopped onto my raised beds!
Kari says
So incredibly beautiful. I’m so happy for you, and for all of us readers, too. The adventure begins!!

Your property is gorgeous – especially that view of the water. I grew up by the ocean, so I’ve always loved the water.
I sure can’t blame your HH for not being happy about raking those leaves. We have 2 acres in the suburbs and DH just gets on the big tractor and mulches the leaves. It’s far easier than blowing or raking leaves.
Teri says
Yes, once a gardener, always a gardener! As long as the old lady pills are handy! Can’t wait to see what you do this Spring! I see you have your pants tucked into your socks — are ticks going to be a problem for you and Lucy?
Paula says
Sweet!
Terri L says
Ha! I knew you couldn’t sit still long.
Leaves make great mulch for flowers and shrubs. On the other hand, my father just mowed their leaves. That will put the nutrients back in the soil and is a lot less work.

AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love your new digs. Can’t wait to see what you dream up over the next 7 months to work on in 2021 as you nest in your new forever home!
Brenda says
Mow the leaves a few times then they will make the grass much healthier and greener in the summer. Plus, no raking or hauling!
Lana says
Exactly what I came to say. Chopping your leaves down into the soil is equal to two fertilizer applications each years and it is free! And much easier than raking! Info from Organic Gardening magazine many years ago.
Robin J says
Did I miss the news of your new place??? I’m confused. Will you share that info soon?
Nancy D says
Go back in her blog around a week and you’ll be able to catch up!
Leslie says
She’s been pretty secretive about it actually. I’d appreciate a little more description and information!
Melanie says
It’s absolutely gorgeous, Mavis! I’m so happy for you both! 🙂

Have you procured a kayak yet?! Looks like a great place to launch a kayak and explore. Especially when you don’t feel like launching the boat. I live on the water here in Alaska and I use my kayak often! Enjoy the waterfront life.
Mavis Butterfield says
It’s on the list! 😉

Gorgeous!!! When do you think you will share and outside house pic? Or did I miss that? How old is this house? We need more! Love seeing your gorgeous new place! A brick patio with a brick fire pit and lots of Adirondack chairs would be amazing for evening/nights with that water view! #TellMeMoreTellMeMore
