Hello Tuesday!
It’s been about a month since I’ve shared pictures of my neighbor’s greenhouse or garden and since fall is right around the corner, I thought it might be nice to squeeze another garden tour in before fall arrives.
Things are going well in the greenhouse as well as the land of Tidy Cat buckets. 😉 The potted herbs in there are HUGE and every time I walk into their greenhouse, it makes me want one of my own.
What I’m most curious about though, is how long the tomatoes in the greenhouse will keep producing. My guess is, if they can keep the tomato plants trimmed and in good shape, they’ll probably still be harvesting tomatoes until at least the end of October. It will be interesting to see.
Outside of the greenhouse, the herb patch is doing great.
But the leaves on the brussels sprouts are still under attack.
Luckily though the little sprouts are still hanging in there. Fingers crossed, they make it.
My neighbor and I were supposed to get started on fusing glass in the new kiln this week, but first, he has to finish the retaining wall in their backyard. Maybe I should send the HH over there to help. 😉
The garden boxes they built this spring are OVERFLOWING with tomatoes. It’s nuts.
Just look at those roma’s! Aren’t they beautiful? They are planning on using them to can sauce.
They were having trouble with the squirrels taking chunks out of their tomatoes for a while, but read on the internet that putting aluminum foil around the plants could help deter critters. So far so good {who knew?}!
The basil though, it’s starting to peter out. Our basil is beginning to go to seed and has a few black spots of the leaves too. It’s just natures way of telling us, hey guys, it was a good run… either plant some news seeds, or I’ll see you next year.
And last but not least, the tomatillos. Those are coming along too, and I’m excited to give them a try when they’re ready.
Well, that’s what’s happening here in Maine on what I’m hoping will be the last super hot day of the summer. How’s YOUR garden doing these days… are things beginning to wind down? Curious minds want to know.
Have a wonderful day everyone, I’m off to bake a pie.
Peace Out.

I have problems with squirrels too. Had not heard of the foil trick. This year I got “cat scat”. Its that spikey plastic roll of stuff, I got it at Gardener’s Supply. Worked like a charm. The little critters definitely do not like to walk over spikey stuff. Also we have had an abundance of hawks this year which probably also helped. Sadly August is way beyond my growing season here in south Texas so my garden is approaching winter sleep. We will be up and running again while you are deep in snow though. Happy gardening.

Hi Carole!
I’m a Texas neighbor. Is your growing season over because it’s just too hot?
We still have many items flourishing in our area gardens and are about to start fall season plants.
Just curious!

Anyone know a trick to keep pests off the Brussels sprouts? Bugs have eaten the leaves clean. Little black and red buggers. Thanks in advance!

Spinosad or Dietimacious Earth

Super hot?
I think you should be basking in those cool temps.

Oh how I wish it would rain in my area. All I do is water and weed for the last two months. And the temps are 85-95.

We have tomatillos and tomatoes overflowing here too! ( lower Denver in CO) I am excited to can salsa and maybe sauce if I have enough tomatoes left over. Our potatoes look great, carrots are a daily pick and parsnips!!! I have four plants though waiting to pick them. The mini pumpkins are loving The warm weather and we have over twenty from one plant alone Have an amazing day out there!!

I get plastic snakes for $1 to place around the tomato plants in yard and on tables and chairs. The birds don’t peck things and the chairs and tables don’t get poop. You only need one snake for four chairs and one table. I only have three snakes. Every day, I toss the snakes into a different place.
I hear ducks take care of bugs without eating the plants…lol.

My husband would fall out if I used fake snakes in the yard! We have snakes anyway, so to put some out on purpose would just be cruel!! Poor guy…

As a fellow rug hooker would love to see done of your work in progress.
Also just curious what “HH” stands for. I realize it’s the husband…
