Let’s start Thursday off with a giveaway… shall we?
Yesterday I was finally able to track down a Girl Scout Troop with cookies!!! I don’t know about you, but I LOVE Girl Scout cookies and this year, I didn’t see a single booth outside a grocery store {before all the craziness started of course} so I wasn’t able to buy any. But perseverance paid off and after contacting a local troop, I was able to snag their last boxes of cookies so I could send a few to Monkey Boy {and eat a few} and give some away to YOU! 🙂
I was a Girl Scout. I sold cookies, proudly wore my badge-filled sash and even had the most awesome time ever when I attended Girl Scout Camp during my middle school years. I was a tween and it was the. best.summer of my life. I learned to sail, used an outhouse, got my head checked for lice, made tiki torches out of Kotex pads {it’s a lost skill I tell you}, made arts and crafts, slept in a cabin with no doors, and sang some really cool camp songs that I still remember to this day. It was the seriously the best summer ever!
So in honor of my Girl Scout heritage, one lucky reader will win 4 boxes of Girl Scout cookies.
- 1 Box Thin Mints
- 1 Box Peanut Butter Patties
- 1 Box Lemonades {my new favorite!}
- 1 Box Caramel Delights

Mavis, one of my best memories was of Girl Scout Camp too! My luggage was lost and I had to wear the same clothes I left in for two weeks! When we arrived home and I got off the bus, the only clean thing about me were the lines of tears down my face because I was so sad to leave my counselor, Willow! I also got a bad burn on my ankle from cooking on a coffee can that we had made into a stove. The good thing about that was I didn’t have to go on the 20 mile hike, although it turned out that it was a whole bunch of fun so I was sad I had missed it. My favorite cookies are the thin mints!

Here in Canada we don’t get the fancy Girl Guide cookies, we can get a box of chocolate and vanilla (one row of each) or the thin mints. In November I bought 4 boxes of thin mints and have them tucked away so Hubs can’t find them or they’d be all gone in no time!.
I have two favourite cookies, one from my childhood that I have no idea what they were called but my mom made them a couple times and can’t remember what they were now. She’s 75 this year, but that’s no excuse! They were a lemon soft cake like cookie that puffed up in a soft mound of lemony goodness. She used an artificial lemon flavouring that came in a gel cap type thing where you would poke a hole in it and squeeze out the flavouring. I would love to get my hands on that recipe if anyone made them in the early 70’s can remember what they were. My second would be Chocolate haystacks, likely because they were the first cookie I could make by myself for the 4 of us kids and my parents while they were at work. Most times without permission and of course using baking supplies my mom would have in mind for other items to bake! Those were the days!
