I have lived in New England my entire life and absolutely love it! Was born on Cape Cod, a MUST SEE. I currently live in NH and if you get the chance to visit here, fall foliage season is when NH is in it’s peak of beauty. I don’t think anyone’s mentioned it but I think you should visit VT! The Cabot Creamery, the Ben & Jerry’s Factory, so many local farms and quaint B&B’s you just can’t go wrong. Of all the New England states the one I enjoy visiting more for vacation (other than my hometown or Orleans, on Cape Cod) is the coast of Maine. My favorite places in each state are: Stowe in VT, Bar Harbor in ME, the entire White Mountains region of NH, Mystic in CT, Newport in RI, and, of course, Boston in MA. Although, I do have to say, there are soooo many other places that I enjoy as well. The only place I’ve been in New England is Freedom, NH. A long, long time ago my stepson was involved in a car accident as a pedestrian and was in a physical rehab center somewhere near there. Beautiful place, except for the black flies. We took a boat ride on some very big lake (the name of which escapes me), and just had the best time.
lori c says
My grandma is buried in Freedom, I grew up just south of there. I’m familiar with the rehab center, although it has changed names a dozen times! You probably were on Ossipee Lake or maybe Lake Winnipesaukee. Its a beautiful area, thanks for the mention!

I love Bucksport! The first time I stopped there was to go to Fort Knox. The haunted one! Then went to Bucksport to see Bucks gravestone with the witches foot on it. He was supposed to have been cursed and she would forever dance on his grave. Th new bridge with Americas tallest bridge observatory on it is awesome too!
You can buy shrimp and lobster, cod, haddock, clams, scallops, swordfish, salmon from the fish truck and there are lots of cosy places to eat seafood etc all over the area! There are lots of farm stands along the roads as well as other types of road style sales. Tons of antique stores and yard sales in the summer. There is an awesome street festival in the end of July and Halloween we have the coffin race and parade of costumes. There is a haunted house in the old fort (Fort Knox) and we also have the Psychic Fair as well as Civil War enactments as well as the Rennosance Fair where everything is done in the Medieval periode, including the awesome sword fights. I love the little book store and the wonderful yarn store a few miles from Bucksport. If you ever come to Maine,go see Bar Harbor and Acadia Park. Belfast is a great artsy town and Camden is very cosy and quaint.

I visited Naushon Island with my parents when I was a teen. My mother’s friend worked on the island as a caretaker. We went on some fantastic field trips with our kids to some of the great historical places. My favorite thing about New England is the autumn leaves. People who have never seen them just can’t imagine how beautiful it is at that time of year.

We really enjoyed the USS Constitution ship/museum tour!
Tasha says
We live just west of Boston, and I love all of New England. My favorite town so far is Whitingham, VT, where we attended a maple syrup festival and took an accidental detour on several miles of dirt roads with snow piled two feet high on both sides. Down those roads, we found some of the most beautiful New England scenery I’ve had the pleasure of viewing. Too bad I have no idea where we were or how to find those roads again, or I’d go back next year.
Josephine Howe says
I went to Boston in June of 1966 and played with the Cornell Concert Band on the Boston Commons. We also played in Hartford, Connecticut. Plus I went to Cape Cod in 1971. I went to Burlington, Vermont in 1997 and took the ferry from NY State across to Vermont. Wow, the time does go by!!

I grew up in New England. My father was born in Boston, my grandfather was a carpenter and house builder in a little town outside of the city. My great grandfather’s house is still in the family on Cape Cod in the town of S. Wellfleet. He was a seaman and settled on the Cape. My dad grew up in Charlestown, NH, his parents renovated a farm house there when he was a small boy. It is a beautiful place on a dirt road. The front porch overlooks wonderful rolling hills. The fall colors are amazing! Lots of fond memories playing in that yard and sitting on the porch.

We absolutely loved the charm of Camden, Maine when we went there for a tall ship cruise on the Mercantile. I highly recommend that experience for everyone. I was fascinated to see pansies in the summer gardens up there. In Texas, we normally plant those in the winter. However, this year, as of today, May 3rd, I still have very robust pansies. It went down to an unprecedented 34 degrees last night.

Unfair advantage, I live in New England, and willfully remove myself from the contest!
I will say, I love it here, but perhaps some day, a move might be warranted. I love winter, but I could use a little less of it over the course of a year.
I’ve climbed every mountain in New Hampshire named after a President, been to the top of Mount Katahdin (the beginning or end of the Appalachians, depending on your direction of travel), canoed the Allagash River, saw the WaterFire in Providence, saw the sunrise on the beach at Cape Cod & the sunset on the beach at Cape Cod the same day.

We have made many trips to New England. My husband’s first cousin has a place on an island off Portland, MA. Wehave driven out of our way many times to go to LLBean in Freeport, Maine. It is our favorite stopping place. A local told us where to go for a lobster meal. We have returned numerous times. While shopping at LLBean, one of our two young granddaughters became quite ill. The clerk was more then helpful. She called ahead to the doctor then gave us directions to his office. He happened to be from VA where we live. I have always found the people in Freeport knd, caring and happy for the huge numbers of people who come there to be there. Hospility at it’s finest.
