I couldn’t sleep a wink on Sunday night. I kept tossing and turning and telling myself my lack of shut eye was because The Girl was back home for winter break and NOT because I was suppose to take her to get her hair cut SUPER short the next day.
Initially, I didn’t want to watch. I was worried she wouldn’t look good with short hair and I was TERRIFIED she’d regret it. But The Girl was adamant she was ready for a “new do.” And so yesterday, we piled into the car and headed to the salon.
Well she did it. She had her hair chopped off. She plans to donate her hair to Locks of Love {they require donations be at least 10″.}
And you know what? It. Looks. Awesome.
That kid. So brave. I wish I could be more like her.

One of my Girls (she’s ten now) donated her hair twice to ‘Haarwensen’, the Dutch version of Locks of Love. First time in 2011 and three year later her ponytail was long enough to donate again. Proud of her!

Good for her! Most of my life I had long, thick, and wavy hair that was too heavy to do anything with. I finally had enough and got it cut really short. It’s so much easier to take care of! It’s good to try different things – and it does grow back!

That’s a sweet cut! Scarves are her new best friend.

Mavis, can you reveal the name of the Salon or the name of the stylist? I love that haircut!!

Hi Yvonne. Here is a link to the “inspiration cut.” She found it on pinterest. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/408349891188416908/

Glad that she donated her hair, wish it had been to Children with Hair Loss. They never charge a family for a wig, but Locks of Love charges on a sliding scale. She looks great, by the way. Glad she likes the cut.

I’ve heard “wigs for kids” is anothe good donation option, and the hair doesn’t have to be quite as long.

Yep. Pantene Beautiful Lengths is another great option that doesn’t charge cancer patients for the wigs. They are easy to donate through as well. I wish more people knew that Locks of Love isn’t as great as they tout themselves to be. Shame on them for charging patients for wigs!

What a great cut! I looks great, stylish and she can always grow it back. Think of all the shampoo she will save.

Wow! What a radical change! I understand that you don’t want to show her face, but I’d love to see the before and after hair dos with her face blurred out. I’d love to see the short style from the front and what style she had before. Yeh for The Girl!

My granddaughter recently cut her hair-9.5 inches. It still reaches just to her shoulders and looks really pretty. I’m sure your daughter looks pretty too!

Oh I love it! Good for her!! Such a cute new do. I think women look awesome with short hair (plus I had short hair for a decade).

Good for your daughter. It’s only hair. And, if we find ourselves spending every day in a ponytail, like I did, it’s time to get a “real” haircut. After decades of long hair, often worn pulled back into a ponytail for convenience, I’ve cut mine and no longer look like I am stuck in 11th grade.

LOVE that haircut!! Short and sassy and beautiful and fun … your daughter has great taste. Enjoy!!

Mavis I love her cut! After years of my curly long hair and constantly pulling it back, I cut mine short 3 years ago and have never looked back. I love being able to wash and go.
How bout you Mavis? You’d look FAB in that cut. Join us! Pony Tails Be Gone!!

My wife has had beautiful long blonde hair (so cool she’s been getting compliments on it for decades). She has donated 12″ worth to Locks of Love five times now. Hey, it grows back.
