Do not attempt to grow lettuce in a greenhouse when the temperature outside is in the mid 80’s. It won’t work out too well. Not that I would know anything about that. 😉
Yesterday was greenhouse clean up day. It’s been awhile since I did anything out there but water or harvest vegetables, so I thought I better hop to it and get something constructive done while the weather was nice. Oh, and no, you do not need to adjust the color on your computer monitor. I am really that pale. But, if you look closely at the next photo, you notice my forearms are much darker. So there is hope for my farmers tan. I think.
Snacking on cherry tomatoes, is one of my favorite pastimes.Â
A rainbow of happiness. Anyone else growing Sungolds this year?
I have no idea what these ones are but I can tell you one thing, as soon as they ripen, I’m going to eat them! And I won’t even feel bad if I don’t share.Â
Gardening, it’s pretty rad.
Wouldn’t you say?

I feel your pain. All my lettuce that I had growing in pots on my front porch railing has bolted/succumbed to aphids. So today it all went in the compost tumbler. Still waiting on my first ripe tomato, but it’s almost there! Didn’t plant any cherries this year, something I am definitely regretting now. Good thing it’s farmer’s market today!

Looks like fun. Your Tomatoes look fantastic. I have a weekend full of yard and garden chores also. Replacing gate posts ect ect it never ends. I have a couple of questions off the subject. When you put your bark down, did you put down a weed barrier? If so what kind do you recommend? What is the best way to get rid of aphids? I have black aphids on my artichokes and white aphids on my brusselsprouts. Been just spraying them off with water but they keep comming back. Little buggers!

Oh those tomatoes look fantastic! I only have Roma’s and had to pull off a lot of them last night due to blossom rot. I almost cried. Do you have any quick fix suggestions? I am ended the soil before planting with egg shells but I’m in CA and it has been so hot and dry here and I don’t think they were getting enough water. Boo!
On a side note: It is my first year with an actual garden ( read 5 mostly full beds vs. one tomato or zucchini plant) and I you have been SUCH an inspiration and help!! Thank you!

Raising sungolds for the first time this year – they are awesome.
Wish I’d planted 2 of them.

I planted a Sungold for the first time this year to compare to my favorite Sunsugar. The Sungold is delicious but I still prefer Sunsugar. It is sweeter and has a richer tomato flavor. My Cherokee Purple has a tomato that is nearly ready. Pretty excited about that!

This is my second year raising sungolds. Last year I thought I had a poor yield, until my daughter’s boyfriend confessed he had been snacking on them right off the plant whenever he was here! I also have a pot of sweet 100s, a pot of Early Girl, and one of a new slicer from Oregon. That’s four plants, but the only one in my house who likes fresh tomatoes is me. Did I over plant?

Fantastic year for our Sungold! I love plucking them off the vine, washing in the outdoor sink and eating right there in the garden. The plant is so big one branch broke off. I have since pruned a bit more but the plant is going crazy. We also have an Early Girl and an heirloom Roma. Since my husband is not a big fan of tomatoes, I will definitely have to do some sharing : )

There really is nothing that compares to produce fresh from the garden!
