Yesterday The Girl and I took Lucy the puggle princess to the vet for her yearly check up. It’s a two person job I tell you. A two person job.
Lucy has been kicked out of every nail salon in town so we have to get her nails trimmed at the veterinarian’s office. She simply does not like people touching her feet {and really, who can blame her?!} and it usually takes 2 techs to get the job done. One to hug her tightly and the other to do the nails.
Yada yada yada, anytime we go near the building she tends to freak out a little and once we get her in the door the peeps there end up bribing her with bits of dog biscuits to distract her. Yesterday was no different.
When it came time to weigh Lucy she wanted no part of the big dog {walk on} scale so they had to pull out the baby scale.
Surprise surprise…
At Lucy’s last checkup she weighed 28.5 pounds. This time around she weighed in at 25.5 pounds. Roughly 11% less! The vet said her weight was PERFECT. Gee… I wonder how that happened? Could it possibly be because we were out of town for 7 weeks and the HH and Monkey Boy weren’t slipping her extra treats? Hmmm. I wonder. 😉
Snacks. They add up!

Our pup had been gaining about a pound or so between each vet visit. She is really a couch dog & doesn’t like going out much. The vet recommended the “1/4 rule.” Cut her food intake by 1/4. So she now gets 3/4 cup a day instead of 1 cup. For treats, I get the really tiny Milk Bone Trail Mix treats. Lucy looks great.

Congratulations on getting Lucy’s weight in check! Something I did with my golden who had a tendency to gain weight and have long nails was walks on the sidewalk for a minimum of a mile a day. Keeps her weight down and her nails filed by the concrete.
