Originally we were not going to remodel any of the bathrooms until next spring because the cost was not within our budget. But my daughters bathroom is small, and we are keeping the shower unit, so the only thing we were going to need to pay someone to do was lay the tile.
And since tile guy is going to be here later this week laying the tile for the laundry room floor, Chino suggested we just have him take care of the small bit of floor now, and just add the other stuff like a toilet, vanity, light fixture and mirror over the next few months as our budget allows.
But, in order for tile guy to be able to lay a new tile floor, we had to start the demo process lickety split. Which meant, GET IT DONE THIS WEEKEND! 😉
Technically, the bathroom was fine, {like everything else in this house}.
But the bathroom is outdated with a low toilet, low cabinets, a bad light fixture, rusted heating vent, and a seriously yellowed ceiling fan as well.
When the HH pulled back the cupboard I noticed there was only 1 paint color change to the wall. Which made me kind of sad. How on earth, in 20 years, was this bathroom only re-painted one time? I don’t know why that bothered me but it did.
Today, I’ll be pulling up the tile.
Here’s the new stuff. Leonia Sand 6″ by 24″ tile. Tile guy is going to stagger the tile for us. This is the vanity I want to install. It sits about 5″ higher than the old one and it’s about 11″ smaller length wise.
What do you think? Any suggestions?

Now just add a dramatic yet classic mirror. I love my large framed Uttermost brand mirrors. They are beautiful and affordable. Love your tile selection!

Uttermost mirrors are awesome!

Really fabulous choices!

LOVE the tile! I’ve seen a lot of nice mirror re-dos on pinterest where they basically just re-frame a boring mirror. We did a bit of a face lift on our bathroom and we forgot to replace our yellowed exhaust fan. We added on to our house and are remodeling, so my husband is at the home improvement store at least twice a week, yet we still keep forgetting to get a new fan!!!

Ha. I guess if you’re going to forget something, forgetting the thing people rarely see unless they happen to look up is best.

color, color, color…. and a circular rod on the outside of the shower to soften the look.
Linda says
that should have read… circular shower curtain rod, AND shower curtain on the outside of the shower to soften the look.. sorry

Good idea!

For my daughter’s bathroom remodel we have picked out a smaller vanity with a skinny custom shelving system in between the vanity and the wall for all of her products. Add some baskets and it is much better than having her clutter on the counter all the time.

I agree! Clutter makes me crazy!

We had that same old yellow fan in our bathroom until last year when we replaced it with one that also blows warm air. It’s a little more expensive than a plain fan but soooooooooo worth it!!

We remodeled the bathroom in our old house. We looked at stock cabinets at home depot/lowes and found that for about the same price we could special order at their “design center” or what ever you call it and get a much higher quality. Just something to think about

Hi Mavis, do you have IKEA in the neighbourhood? They have a great mirror cabinet. Kills two birds in one stone, a big mirror and storage room for all her bottles and things.
Mavis Butterfield says
We do. I’ll have go there and check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ha ha do not come over to our house we have lived here 21 years and have not painted the inside at all. Maybe we need to barter a stay at my place so you can help? Love seeing all the updates.

Love the tile! Do a midtone grey or “greige” walls for a nice contrast to the vanity. Such a small room, one piece of art with a pop of color would do it.

Beautiful tile! Definitely go for a mirror with a cabinet. You can never have too much storage. Also, consider changing that shower door…we did ours in something called ‘Rain’ which allows lots of light but you can only see a body outline. I love it! Something about a clear door in the shower wigs me out. I think I watched too many horror shows in my youth…and in my adulthood…haha

I painted this house in 1977. I only repainted the bathroom because of water damage from a hole in the ceiling. I repainted the den because it really needed it after a leak from the flat roof.. Quite frankly, the rest is in really good shape.

The tile is very pretty!!

Thanks! We love it too!

If the only thing wrong with the light fixture is that it’s yellowing, you can paint it with spray paint. I did that with our 19 year-old doorbell cover when I repainted our upstairs hallway. It is plastic, and now looks brand new now. I did two coats of Krylon white spray paint in a matte finish. Initially I was worried that because it’s plastic it would easily scratch and chip but now that it’s done I don’t think it will. I do think it’s easier to replace the whole bathroom fan than it is to paint the cover though, especially if it’s 20 years old. It’s probably super noisy and about ready to go anyway.

Good tips! Thanks.
