Ready for a few “scary” facts about Halloween? Maybe the kiddos that come to the door should have to answer a question before they get candy? That would make you super popular in the neighborhood, ha! {At least it would save you money next year on candy.}

- Halloween, orginially All Hallows Eve originates from a the Pagan holiday that honors the dead.

- Jack-o-lanterns come from the Irish. They originally carved turnips and put small candles or coals inside to ward off evil spirits on All Hallow’s Eve. They eventually adopted pumpkins after immigrating to the U.S. because they were so much easier to carve.
- Who started trick-or-treating? {The Irish, they would go door to door asking for donations for the feast for All Hallow’s Eve}
- What is the fear of Halloween called? {Samhainophobia}
- Why are owls popular symbols of Halloween? {Because in Medieval Europe, owls were thought to be witches in disguise} Interesting!
- Why are witches associated with Halloween? {Because witches were thought to meet only 2 times per year, one of them being on Halloween}
- What is the record for the most Jack-o-lanterns lit in one place at one time? {30,128 in Boston, Mass.}
- What is the largest pumpkin on record? {2,032 lbs.}
- Did you know there is a $1000 fine for using or selling Silly String in Hollywood on Halloween?
