Quote of the Day “Sometimes opportunities float right past your nose. Work hard, apply yourself, and be ready. When an opportunity comes you can grab it.” ~ Julie Andrews
Hello Friday! I don’t know about you, but I am looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow morning. The days of having to get up early for kids sporting events has passed… Yee-Haw!
Two things:
- Lucy’s blood work came back and her vet said everything looked great {Wahoo Lucy!}
- I’m fairly certain I have a small case of poison ivy on my left arm. How it got there, I have no idea.
Have a good time this weekend, and stay out of trouble!

Happy to hear about Lucy’s blood work results. Sweet, silly girl. She’s waiting to see if something might spill out of that bowl going into the dishwasher. lol

the Empty Mansions book on your list is one of my favorites. I have passed it along to my mother, who as a retired librarian is an avid reader and she loved it too! My son who is a mining engineer also liked because of the copper mining aspect of the book.

Great news about Lucy!
We blame winter poison ivy on yard work (seems like there’s always little plants that pop up), firewood, and the dog (supposedly if they get in to it the oil gets on their fur and then we can get it from petting them). Isn’t the northeast great?!
Maureen says
The oil from the poison ivy plant was probably still on a tool, glove or other clothing item that you used to clear it from your yard. It’s nasty stuff!

Sorry about the poison ivy. Please get some soap called:
The Grandpa soap, Pine Tar. Made by the Grandpa Soap co, in Erlanger , KY since 1878. It I comes in 3.25oz bars and it does wonders to get rid of the oils from the plants. I can’t agree with the advertised pleasant sent but I wash with it whenever I suspect I’ve been exposed. I have used it on clothes and on tools and have even wiped off my animals fur if I witnessed them in any of the plants. (we live on 3 acres and every year we kill it and it finds a new place to grow.
I know you bought your firewood but if any of it has dried vines in the bark don’t burn it. The oils from the dried vines can get into your lungs from the smoke. I have a severe allergy to these plants and have been admitted to the hospital due to a fire causing me to get quite sick from the plant oils.
Happy Holidays!!!
Sue says
You can get reinfected from dried stems or vines could be on the wood.
Glad to hear that Lucy gotta good report.
Megan says
You can poison ivy from firewood. That is the most common way my very sensitive mother gets it in the winter. One year it was so bad she couldn’t load the stove, the oil in the smoke would get in her mouth and eyes! Then I learned to load a woodstove!
