For date day last week the HH and I headed to the town of Sugar Hill, New Hampshire {population 571} to check out Harman’s Cheese & Country Store. A country store the specializes in mail order cheese, what could be better than that? 😉
Harman’s first opened it’s doors in 1955 with proprietors John and Kate Harman at the helm. The store was then sold in the early 80’s to the Aldrich family who has been running the store since.
Country stores like this are plentiful here in New England, and this store, with it’s helpful staff and oodles of samples did not disappoint. In fact, I am already looking forward to ordering a care package from Harman’s for my MIL’s birthday that’s coming up. Their really aged cheddar was spot on.
Rows and rows of local pickles, jams and dips. And those wood floors {and ceiling!!}.
What is it about old country stores that are so appealing? Is it the buildings? The people? The products? The customer service? Knowing that you are handing your money across the counter to someone who will directly benefit from you shopping there?
I honestly don’t know, but since moving here, finding a new country store to add to our every growing list of small independent businesses to shop at, has been one of the funnest parts about moving here.
New England, YOU ARE AWESOME! 🙂 🙂 🙂
So if you ever find yourself in the town of Sugar Hill, New Hampshire {or anywhere near the Franconia Notch for that matter} be sure and stop in and say hello.
Tuesday, it’s here. Let’s do this!

That’s about 2 weeks worth of meat in my house. Family of four with 2 hungry, meat eating males.

The next time you are in Sugar Hill venture a little further up the hill and get pancakes at Polly’s Pancake Parlor! Amazing pancakes with their own maple syrup. So good I travel 2hours twice a month to have breakfast there.

That horseradish cheese is AH MAZ ING. My sister in law is from NH and brought us some for Christmas one year. Best cheese I’ve put in my mouth. Sigh.
Nancy says
Yeah for Polly’s! Best pancakes on planet earth and wonderful spot to enjoy them. You might never have breakfast at Cracker Barrel again!
