Remember my friend Heather from Massachusetts? Last year around this time she had a serious case of cabin fever because they hadn’t had much snow in her neck of the woods yet. I’m sure many of you have heard by now the Northwest is getting pounded with snow {mostly in Maine today} and when I asked if she could snap a few pictures to share on the blog {because HELLO, I LOVE snow} she obliged. 😉 She loves me. What can I say?
Heather says everytime it snows her husband uses the snow plow to make a racetrack around their house so the dogs can run around and get their exercise. OH MY WORD. Lucy the puggle princess would LOVE this!!! Do you do this for your dogs when it snows at your place?
Her beautiful garden… asleep for the time being.
The chicken coop she made from pallets a few years ago is about 4×6 and keeps her chickens nice and toasty with their deep litter composting and warm bodies. She keeps an old placemat stapled to the door hole which allows no breezes and enough ventilation to eliminate frostbite worry. She also keep a birdbath warmer in the water bucket so the water doesn’t freeze. She’s a good chicken mama if you ask me.
Normal people stay home when it snows… but not Heather and her husband {who are both pilots}. She said that last weekend they landed on an ice runway at Alton Bay {Lake Winnipesaukee, NH} can you believe that? She’s been trying to get me to go up in her plane with her but small airplanes kind of freak me out. 😉
Snow though, snow I can handle. Someday people. Someday I’ll get my fill of the stuff.
Until then, I’ll just have to take what I can get {pictures or a few inches every couple of years}.
What’s the biggest snowfall you’ve ever had at your place?
~Mavis

We have plowed paths thru the snow for the dog and I. But the funniest was the year we had to shovel a huge circle with paths going in and out because the snow was too deep for our Aussie and he kept pooping on the patio! It took me a forever to get all that poop cleaned up after the snow finally melted.

We moved to Wyoming Feb of 2015 and everyone kept warning us that the first 2 winters were very mild. This year, WHOA. I couldn’t even tell you how much we have had, but I wouldn’t let my 8 year old twins play out back by themselves in January because I was afraid they would go missing! Our schools even had their first snow day in 37 years! There is SO much snow piled up along the roads right now.

I love love like be Snow but here in Illinois it has been so mild. I’m packing up and moving to the mountains of Colorado!!!! Can’t wait until next year! As long as I have plenty of food in the freezer, Netflix and my sewing machine I’m happy. Power goes out, not a problem, I have handwork piled up, a wood burning stove, and I can sing like who is going to hear me! Maybe it will scare the wildlife off!!!!

Is your dog a short-haired collie? I love the pics of them.

If you love snow, move to western New York.

I love snow, love sledding, snow shoeing and making snow angels! Living in Minnesota my whole life, you grow up loving it! The most snow in recent years was about 30 plus inches with in a few weeks. It was awesome! This year stinks, not nearly enough snow 🙁

I lived in San Antonio as a kid when 13″ of snow fell, around 1985 or so. It was a record, and so fun after having lived in New Jersey for six winters prior. Lasted about a day.

The 1993 Blizzard, “Storm of the Century” in Alabama, the deep South, was 21″. I was stuck with plenty and even electricity, which most of my friends did not have. For a week I only visited my 94-year-old neighbor. Toward the end of the week, I walked a block to give candles to a friend who was the mother of a foster children’s home. As I walked home, I fell down several times in each yard I passed. I walked on grass because the streets had become icy, more than six inches. Obviously, the grassy yards were icy, too. It was a rough walk home! I just imagine in all those houses were people looking out at the crazy woman who kept falling down!

Hi Mavis! We do a trail around the house for not only the dog, but for me to get to the bird feeders. The most we got in one storm was 24″ January 2011 in CT. I can send you some pics of that storm. Our most recent snows were 14″.

No dogs in this household but previous neighbor was “heard” snow blowing a back yard loop for their dogs at midnight! Next week, I suggested that they consider getting the motor tuned up!
