Homemade Ice Cream Recipes – Cherry Vanilla Chocolate Chip

Ingredients

6 fresh egg yolks
2 cups milk {I used 2%}
4 cups heavy whipping cream
1 cup sugar
seeds of 1 vanilla bean
1 cup sweet cherries,  stemmed, pitted and chopped
3/4 cup chocolate chips {I used semi-sweet}


Instructions

  1. Combine egg yolks, sugar and vanilla seeds in a mixing bowl. Add milk.
  2. Heat mixture in a double broiler until it coats the back of spoon {about 5-7 minutes}.
  3. Place the mixture in the refrigerator to cool down {about 2 hours}.
  4. Remove the mixture from the refrigerator, add gently stir in whipping cream just until combined.
  5. Pour into ice cream maker and follow manufacturer’s instructions.
  6. During the last few minutes of churning, fold in the cherries and chocolate chips.
