My Friend Jane and her husband Jamey picked up 40,000 bees last week for their Langstroth hives {yes those bees are riding shotgun in their van!!!} and I wanted to share her beekeeping experiences with those of you who might be interested.
Jane’s first batch of bee’s died this winter after several months of super low temperatures, but after experiencing a record honey harvest last year, they are back at it again with a new colony of bees.

Yes, she has both hive styles.

That’s on my list for next year. The HH and I just planted 58 fruit and nut tress, plus berry bushes, over the past two weeks. That’s a big enough project for this year.

yeah, those aren’t langstroth hives…they’re top bar. Langs are boxes staked atop one another, top bars are long like a fallen log.
I so want bees! my mom wont allow any on the farm as she is allergic…. like that stopped the ones flying in! LOL

I propose you get an empty hive and just set it up in the backyard until the HOA notices. Maybe you can use that to negotiate something else…I’ll get rid of the bees if I can have some tomatoes.

I’ve been a Mavis addict for years and our farm has been featured on her site before. We are launching a very big project this year as part of a grant I wrote and won through Facebook.
