Monkey Boy was able to get a few day off from work so he hopped a flight and came for a visit. The Girl was able to get some time off as well and so we were all together for Mother’s Day weekend. We roasted weenies, ate smores and had ourselves a few adventures.
And we ate a lot of food too! 🙂 Pizza $15.
Pizza, nachos, ice cream and the boys even went to Red’s for lobster rolls.
And of course there was BBQ. The HH made grilled steak tips with garlic butter and Aidell’s weenies and all the typical bbq sides.
I made pickety bits one night for dinner and included bacon wrapped water chestnuts in the line up.
Have you tried the fresh salsa from Costco? I heaped if over a dish of beans and rice and now it’s the only thing I want to eat. I can’t wait for tomato season to arrive here in Maine. I think we had tomatoes towards the end of July last year so I only have about 10 more weeks to go!
I also made a delicious bean soup with the leftover ham from last week.
Fresh Eggs $4.00
On our way to pick up the pizza The Girl and I stopped by a local stand along the road that had an egg sign out front.
Just walk into the shed, open the fridge, get your eggs, write down what you bought and drop your money in the slot. That’s how things are done around here. 🙂
It was a good week! Lot’s of family and good food. What more could you ask for?
How about YOU? Did you have a good week? Anything exciting happen? Do tell.
Have a great day everyone,
~Mavis

I love that the whole family was together for the weekend. What a wonderful treat! We spent the weekend doing spring chores, weeding the garden, the woods behind the barn and seeding bare patches in the field. Also stacked 4 cords of wood we split last weekend. I’m tired today but am happy we were so productive.

I installed some temporary screening to keep my senior dog out of trouble. Excited that I found a way to make it visually appealing.
Also completed planting and hanging my flowerbaskets for the summer. Measured out a location for a new garden bed, planted a blueberry bush, moved some other plants and pruned some that were very due for it. All in all a very productive Sunday.
Actually was surprised that all came together so quickly.
The identifying and planning of it all took longer than the actual doing….who knew!

Oh yes, bacon wrapped water chestnuts are the best! They’re so easy to make and the first thing to get gobbled up at a party. The recipe I have calls for equal parts of brown sugar and ketchup. Didn’t look at your recipe to see if yours is the same.
How great that your kids got to be with you for Mother’s Day this year, Mavis. So glad for you.

Sounds like you had a lovely weekend, it’s nice to have all your kiddos together. I thinned and repotted some plants. We should be able to put plants in the ground in a couple of weeks. I planted some flower seeds (Cosmos and Nasturiums), did some weeding, helped hubby with some wooden boxes around our front yard trees. We will line them with cardboard and top them off with mulch. Hopefully, this will make mowing and trimming around them easier, not to mention that they look much neater and nicer.

It seemed like old times to hear about Monkey Boy and the Girl who Thinks She is A Bird were home for MOTHER’S DAY!!! I was glad to hear they will be there together for a few days. Hope your day was wonderful!
Oh, by the way, one day I saw on a post and there was a sea/boat painting the Girl did and I totally loved it. But for some reason I didn’t see a way to leave a comment. I found it to be delightful! Please let her know.

What a fab Mother’s day for you with both kids there. Any chance they’ll move back?

Sounds like a lovely Mother’s Day with BOTH “children”/young adults with you. Must have been great to have the entire family together for a few days, and in such an idyllic setting. I had one of my two home and was thankful for that! It gets hard once they have “grown and flown”.
