A small hot fudge sundae for the HH and a medium chocolate ice cream for me. I keep forgetting to order a small.
Coconut ice cream though… I think it’s my favorite.
$4.99 for 5 pounds of delicious Krusteaz pancake mix. YUM YUM.
The HH fired up the Blackstone Griddle again, this time for Huevos rancheros.
And fried rice…
And grilled steak tips and asparagus.
I told him griddle food three times in one week was my limit though and ended up eating guacamole and salsa on a leftover hamburger bun the next day.
Followed by cheese and crackers.
We also visited a new lobster shack.
Market Basket Shopping Trip $82.52
And I also popped by Market Basket after an appointment down south and stocked up on a few essentials.
I’m no math wiz but I do know that $1.89 a pound for beans is a way better deal than….
2 pounds of beans at $2.90 a pound. But hey, I did find the yellow eye beans that someone mentioned last week and picked up a few pounds for a bean supper {or 10} this winter.
And check this out… whole green peas. Have you ever seen whole dried green peas before? It was a first for me. I’m sure they’ll taste exactly the same as split peas, but I grabbed a few bags anyway because I was curious.
And last but not least… pickety bits… with friends. 🙂
Life is good.
How about YOU? How is your pantry these days? Are stocked up on all the essentials? Curious minds want to know. 😉
Have a great Monday everyone,
~Mavis

I’ve always tried to keep a stocked pantry but I made it a point even more after last year. Hearing about how meat prices will be skyrocketing in the coming months I filled my freezer with hamburger (1.79/lb), chicken thighs (0.99/lb) and pork chops (0.99/lb.)

I have always been on the *stocked pantry and freezer* wagon… but with prices rising and these 3 teenagers being eating machines.. it is a constant game of I drop a ton of money on quality fresh and frozen foods and they eat it all.. and then I am looking at empty space and wondering what happened to all the money I just spent! lol With all 3 working now husband and I are trying to get more date nights in.. on the random night they are all at work.. time alone and lower bill! HA! I truly cannot complain.. they are eating tons of fresh fruit/veg, and eating all the leftovers.. no waste here! Now if they could stop looking for and depleting the snacks I have hidden from them..

If nothing else, you have tons of peas you could use as seeds . I know I would be itching to experiment and plant a few to see if they would grow and what kind came up, lol!

Yeah, I’ve never seendried whole peas like that! And I’ve never heard of the yellow eye peas. That’s part of the fun of meal-planning and grocery shopping! New stuff to explore!
Ima pretty new reader, never been to New England at all, but I’m sure enjoying your blog!

I have always been a “stocked up pantry” kind of person. I love the BOGO sales but I make sure that it is a good deal first by checking prices at other stores. Sometimes an item is cheaper at another store than it is at the BOGO price. I have a “shopping notebook” where I keep a list of items with prices. Lately, it has been harder to keep it updated as the prices keep changing (going up!).
All in all, I love it when I run out of something while cooking and can just go to the pantry to get another one! A stocked up pantry really came in handy last year during all the quarantines. I highly recommend it (but make sure you use what you stock up or it is just a waste of money).

Hi, Mavis. I love whole green peas sprouted. They actually taste much like fresh green peas. And sprouts, as I’m sure you know are so nutritious. I bought a 25# bag of them during the pandemic panic, and now I’m sharing with friends and family, teaching them how to sprout them. The silly things we humans do.

Donna can you tell us how you sprout your whole dried peas? I’ve never heard of anyone doing that before and now I’m intrigued. Thanks!!

Growing Green Pea Sprouts
SOAK
8 – 12 hours
The amount of time your seeds should soak in cool water. Soaking is how we begin the sprouting process in most cases.
RINSE / DRAIN
2 – 3 times per day
How often your seeds should be watered. Rinsing thoroughly and then draining as much water as possible are key components to growing great sprouts.
HARVEST
2 – 3 days
The time it takes to grow a finished Sprout, or other crop (Micro-Greens, Grass, Greens) from a dry Seed. Note: This “finished” Sprout is our preference. you may grow them for as long as you want! In fact, we suggest that you taste them at every rinse to discover when you like them best.
YIELD
2 to 1
The amount of Sprouts, Grass, Greens or Micro-Greens produced by 1 unit of Seed. For Example 2:1 means that 1 pound of Seed will produce 2 pounds of Sprouts or whatever crop you are growing. You do not have to grow them all at once of course, unless you wish to =:-D

I try and keep a stocked pantry. When times are lean or bills add up it’s nice to fall back on a pantry and take care of financial needs with the offset of eating at home. I have started to be more mindful of sales and coupons again. Although couponing is nothing like it was 10+ years ago, there are still some savings to be found. Where I used to be able to zero out on groceries 10 years ago, I made a list went to a few stores and saved about 15% on my bill. It’s not much, but I’ll take it!
