I forgot to share this picture of a home we saw last week when we were out driving around. Isn’t it beautiful high up on it’s perch?
And check out the lobster weathervane and the red lobster screened door. I love the look of the red door against the grey siding and the white trim. Light grey and white are such seaside colors, don’t you think?
Anyway, here are some of the foods we ate last week. Apparently it was a good one. π A club sandwich from the General Store in Owls Head.
Five Guys!!! I had a strawberry shake and shared a medium cup of fries with the HH. I don’t know what’s in them, but Five Guys and Chick Fil A have the BEST shakes!
Pizza Pizza!
Apples with baked brie and crackers. And a little left over spinach artichoke dip and pepper slices.
What’s this? Pickety bits again? My buddy Heather from MA stopped by with her husband to say hi and well, since I was pretty sure they wouldn’t want canned chili, I had the HH run to our little general store to pick up a few rations. Well done husband!
English muffins with marmalade. It’s the breakfast of champions.
The HH made breaded chicken and broccoli for dinner one night.
And I pulled homemade meatballs out of the freezer and handed him a box of pasta the next night. He’s got this dinner thing down so well I don’t think he should ever stop. I mean, why mess with a good thing, right?
And of course, I had a few bowls of my favorite copy cat Panera tomato soup. π
General Store $10.78
He bought everything on my list.
Last minute snack from the General Store. “40 Bucks” is what my husband said when I asked how much he spent. Apparently the standard sized chocolate bar wasn’t enough though, so he bought a larger one. π Also, have you tried Boar’s Head has the best sliced meats and dips before? Every product we’ve tried so far has been delicious. It kind of makes me want to try them all.
So how did YOU do last week? Any exciting purchases? Do tell.
Have a great day everyone,
~Mavis
P.S. It snowed again last night. Looks like we got about 5 inches. π

Boar’s Head is awesome. Their mustards are great as well. Our favorite southern chain, Publix, carries a whole ton of their products. When you order a sub from their deli you can choose the Boar’s Head product.

In the last picture, is that snow on the inside of your windows?
Mavis Butterfield says
Door. π

I just bought a Boars Head horseradish cheddar like the cheese you bought. It has so much more horseradish flavor than the Yancyβs horseradish cheddar. It is so good. I havenβt seen many other Boars Head products here, but I will keep looking.

This week I kept my grocery store spending to $100 (for 5 adult sized people) and dh is going to Costco with our $101 rebate check to fill in. I bought meat that wasn’t on my list at the grocery store because it was on sale for 1/2 off. I love those types of sales!

I agree about the Boar’s Head – its the only brand of lunchmeat I’ll eat. Its a great example of “you get what you pay for”. I don’t eat pork or beef but their sliced turkey – in all its varieties – is excellent.

Not trying to sound snarky but I’m trying to understand how you budget. You don’t count take out in your weekly totals?
Mavis Butterfield says
If we eat “take out” at home then it counts as grocery money. If we eat it while we’re out exploring, it goes under the “entertainment” category.
We don’t get take out much, but when we do it’s sort of an event and basically counts as a date in my book. π
Stacey says
That’s pretty much what we do, too. I’ve been working on our new budget and have decided that we need to stick more closely to it in our Food category. We’ll use our spending money if we want takeout and don’t have enough left in the food account for the week. Our savings account has been growing, but not enough considering our age. Our big theme this year is going to be saving!

Is that a guest house with the lobster weathervane?
Did HH arrange the board of pickety bits? So artsy!
Mavis Butterfield says
I don’t know… but isn’t it cool? π
Nancy Sadewater says
I loved the house and shed/guest house and would love to live there.
Holley says
If you try Boar’s Head hummus you’ll never enjoy other brands after that!!! You have been warned!

So I love that you have pickety bits for dinner sometimes. It’s like you gave me permission to not cook dinner and eat what I love.
