A bacon cheddar and onion scone, pickled beets and apple slices.
My favorite Costco chicken salad.
Date day: We split fish tacos, onion rings and fries.
The HH made fajitas on the griddle, and I made refried beans in the Crock Pot.
Leftovers the next day. 🙂
Is cheeseburger season over yet? I have a feeling it’s not.
At least we have heirloom tomatoes now to go with them.
Scammaford $6.98
When I was at Market Basket the week before last, you could get a bag of 6-8 bell peppers for less than $4. At Scammaford they’re $4.99 for 3.
Anyone know how much the big bag of 6 colored peppers goes for at Costco these days?
$33.78 for 24 bags of egg noodles.
It looks like I’ll be making a boatload of tuna casserole this winter. And maybe some chicken noodle soup. 🙂
Head Tide Oven $46.98
Peach pie, walnut raisin sourdough, Vollkornbrot sourdough and a raspberry jam bar. I think there are only a few more things left that I haven’t tried on the menu. 😉
$18.50 The blueberries were $5 each and the raspberries $4.25 each
From a sweet little cart at the end of someone’s driveway.
$2.25 fresh beets {I just planted ours for a fall harvest}
Just pop the money in the slot and you’re good to go.
Local Farmstand $7
$4 for a dozen fresh eggs and $3 for 6 homemade chocolate chip cookies with walnuts.
What a beauty! Anyone know what kind of chicken this egg came from?
How did you do this past week? Did you stock up on anything for your pantry or find any treasures alongside the road? Curious minds want to know.
Have a great Monday everyone,

I drove to the Northeast Kingdom in Vermont a few weeks ago and passed a stand in front of someone’s house – PINTS of raspberries for $3! They were $2 a pint if you picked your own. I happily bought and ate a whole pint by myself.

When I was at Costco last week, I think the 6 pack of peppers was either 5.99 or 6.99 (Tallahassee, Florida). But you got a great deal on the raspberries! I bought a very small 6oz pack for $4.16 at Publix – your photo looks like a bigger pack and they look delicious.
Randa says
In Olympia, WA the Costco peppers were $7.99.

I did my big monthly stock up trip this past weekend – with four kids in tow too! I love these trips, they’re very satisfying to me. It also finally happened – a kid (my 2 year old) managed to sneak something into the cart without my knowing. When I was putting away groceries at home I said “hey, I didn’t buy mini chocolate chips!” Except apparently I did lol
Maybe it’s just my 32 years of living in suburbia, but are there ever issues with people just stealing food from these roadside/driveway stands? I don’t think anyone could do that where I live. Or is the occasional food stolen worth it to the person selling knowing they’re making some money and others are enjoying their goods?
Linda says
So agree, but I live in suburbia too.
Mavis Butterfield says
I have never heard of theft being a problem. I know I never had any problems when I had my little stand.
Kitty says
That was my first thought as well.

That is a gorgeous egg! I have never seen one like it. We can get a 2 1/2 dozen flat of farm fresh eggs for $4.75 and whenever I am in that area I grab them. Just the beautiful shells make me smile.

We stocked up on lentils, tomato paste, wine, and dried milk powder this weekend. All were on sale and should last us 4 to 6 months. How do you track your extra dry goods and their expiration dates? We have bins with a 4 month date range on them. All goods in that bin expire within the written date range.
Mavis Butterfield says
What brand of dried milk powder do you buy?
Jamie says
Nido. We use it in baking a lot (particularly homemade pizza dough).
Richelle in Tacoma says
I think the egg might be from an olive egger.

At Sam’s a 6 pack of colored peppers are $6.98. They are delicious!
Mel says
I wonder if it’s a Welsummer egg. We have Black Copper Marans, and they lay eggs close to that shade but usually without the speckles. Although, our chickens came from what turned out to be a very questionable breeder, so who knows what they really are–there could be something else mixed in.
Yvonne says
6 pack colored peppers were $5.99 at Harrisburg pa Costco two weeks ago.
Jane says
Those speckles are not uncommon on many backyard chicken eggs (I had some for 10 years) although those are a lot. I suspect it’s from calcium deposits or extra calcium. Could be from almost any brown layer, but if it’s almost copper colored could be a Maran.
Tom Friday says
From what I can find on the internet, I would say that the chicken egg is from a new-to-laying Welsummer. Love your blog.
Take care and stay safe.

88 cents a pepper at WinCo today in Bend, OR

Local farmers market had a dozen eggs for $8.00….no thanks. Blueberries at $10 a pound, and not nearly as tasty as they are in Maine. Strawberries I did buy, $12 for 3 pints. I cut them up and freeze most of them. They are heavenly! And buying 3-6 pints a week and freezing most of them during the season means I always have them throughout the year. The rest I wash in vinegar water and they stay fresh for days.
Mavis Butterfield says
$8 for eggs and $10 a pound for blueberries is ridiculous. I would have passed too.

Went “peopleing” and did a pantry restock today… went to Aldis with a detailed list after taking inventory of my pantry to see what the family liked to eat and *actually* needed to survive back-to-school lunch-packing, and getting into the fall groove through Thanksgiving, when I will restock for the winter through Easter (because I am not a fan of grocery bobsledding down our 1/4 mile driveway in freezing temps). Never would have given purposeful spending a thought, (which was a factor in the list-making, i.e. how can I trim my budget to make our long-term wishes a reality?), had I not been reading your blog. Thanks so much for sharing your life strategy story… it’s definitely been an inspiration to me and, ultimately, my family in making life easier, and getting along more enjoyably and efficiently in life. Happy August!

For the chicken egg, you might contact McMurray hatcheries and ask if they can tell you. Murray McMurray Hatchery in Idaho, I believe…
