It was another fantastic week in the food department at our place with lot’s of homemade meals, I even tried out a few new recipes. I did notice I am running low on everyday cheese {cheddar and pepper jack} so I’ll need to stock up on that before we settle in for the winter here at Casa de Butterfield.
Because seriously, a winter without sheet pan party nachos would be a total bummer.
Weekly pickety bits are starting to make a come back… this time I made them with caprese salads as the main feature.
And I made another puff pastry zucchini tart, this time with savory tomato jam spread on the bottom rather than pesto and a little bit of sliced sweet peppers on top. {SO GOOD!}
There was also beans and rice, rice and beans {can you tell we are swimming in tomatoes?}.
And we had grilled weenies and peppers at Kiln Guy’s new place.
With a homemade triple berry cobbler and Gilford’s vanilla ice cream.
The HH also made a pot of his delicious chicken noodle soup.
And last night for dinner, I made a cinnamon peach crisp {anyone want the recipe?} It was so good, I had a heaping bowl of it this morning too. 🙂
Online Order $31.06
Nestle Nido whole milk powder {for the pantry} and Nellie and Joe’s key lime juice {to prevent scurvy}.
Farmstand $14 {$10 for the cheesecake, $4.00 for the granola}
Amish Lady $19.50 {peaches were $0.50 each and bread was $5}
We also bought 2 of the best hand pies on the planet earth and gobbled them up so fast while we were sitting in the car, I didn’t have time to take a picture. They were so good, we’ve already decided that next time, we are going to buy 6.
Here’s a fun link about the history of their Happy Farm.
All in all it was a great week. We ate lot’s of homemade meals, visited some friends and got a lot of work done in the yard.
How about YOU? Are you feeling like cooking more these days? Are you getting excited about the cooler temps that are right around the corner? I know I am. 🙂
Have a great Monday everyone,
~Mavis

Cooler weather in Northern MN can’t come soon enuf….this week is slated for mid 70’s. Hallelujah for being away from the 80’s-90’S!
So when you posted earlier this week that sheet pan nachos were to be had, i had to have them too. Also made a peach crisp, but yours looks better (mine was a little dry!), so please post your recipe! We had chicken wild rice soup…i LOVE soup weather!

I cannot wait for cooler temperatures and the foods that go with them.
I’m still working on getting our freezer stocked, but the big food news for us is that we replaced our table and chairs! After working at our dining table for 18 months of remote work, I was so over our antique dining table. It’s a beautiful table–just too dark, big, and fancy for the space we had. I replaced it with a simple white table and white easy-to-clean chairs. The new setup is so much brighter and a much better fit for our narrow dining area. And it still seats up to 10 people, but the leaf to extend the table fits inside the table instead of needing to be stored separately. I can’t wait to put out pumpkins and sunflowers to make it even more bright and cheerful.
Now, we just need to find a home for the antique table and 10 matching chairs…

What do you do with the dried milk powder? I’d love the cobbler recipe. Do you have a specific recipe for the key lime juice?
Thank you

It’s still in the 90’s here in SWFL everyday. So no soup or baking weather for us yet. Usually in September we start to get cooler mornings periodically but hot days, then by October it’s cool mornings and warm days, followed by glorious November, December, January, and February that are pleasantly cold to cool for Florida….it’ll be in the 60’s to 70’s and we all break out our sweaters and burkas and do things outside!! I’m from CT originally, so I know how ridiculous that sounds. But it’s cold weather for us!
In the pantry department I have taken a break from shopping despite my concerns with prices going up. I started shopping at Aldi almost religiously but have noticed their prices going up to. When I asked I was told that Walmart and other stores are going up in prices so they are raising theirs accordingly. Some things I’ve noticed…brownie mix was .85 cents a box, now is .98 cents a box. Their name brand soda was 2.35 for a 12 pack it’s now 2.85. I know those aren’t great health food examples, but ones I can remember. My second home is pending sale and when it does sell I plan on doing more stocking up, but for now know it’s best to eat from the pantry for my family. But … yes the cost of inflation does concern me.
