This past week was a good one food wise. Lot’s of homemade goodness, including a batch of homemade tortillas. Have you ever made them before? They are SO EASY to make and taste a million and three times better than a store bought tortilla.
You can find the recipe for homemade tortillas HERE.
I have never once made a perfectly round tortilla. And that’s okay. Who wants that anyway?
All I know is this…. If you have always wanted to make your own tortillas, but didn’t know how to make them, you should give then a try because you’ll be so glad you did.
Beef and Barley Soup:
- Leftover juices from Mississippi Pot Roast + a little water
- 1 can Rotel
- 1 cup Barley
- 2 cups leftover beef bbq from freezer
Toss in pot, simmer for 1 hour. Serve. 🙂
Last week I whipped up a batch of Old Fashioned Strawberry Ice Cream from the berries we bought at our local fruit and veggie stand. I use a Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker and it works like a dream. The strawberry ice cream turned out just like the Häagen-Dazs version but better.
Market Basket $59.12
I sent the HH to Market Basket with a list and not only did he come home with the lettuce greens I wanted, but a box of ice cream bars, 2 pizzas, 2 boxes of cereal and a tub of rice pudding {gross!}. I guess he was hungry.
His most exciting find was “microwavable” Brussels sprouts. He say’s he’ll never go back to bulk sprouts again. Whatever. Guys are weird.
Big salad x 5. Finally….
ALDI $18.07
Fake Rotel $0.45, The best chili beans $0.49 and a few other random things.
Sal’s Pizza from the North End. Hands down the BEST New York Style cheese pizza we’ve had so far here in New England. You know it’s a good slice when you can pick it up and fold it in half and the toppings stay in place.
Breakfast at Lil’s. The best crullers on the plant earth.
Seriously.
Note to self: Hide BBQ.
Have a wonderful day Monday everyone. I hope it’s filled with something delicious {that’s not BBQ}.

Why not ask HH to not put BBQ on some of the meats? I like BBQ, but, I like plain grilled best. My daughter doesn’t eat BBQ, so we just grill hers. Lemon pepper is awesome on meats too. Especially chicken. Yum.

Homemade tortillas are the bomb! I also make my own tortilla chips. Fake Rotel from ALDI is pretty good. I’m glad we have an ALDI warehouse close to home, the shelves in the 2 stores in my town are rarely bare. I love that store, plus a local one called Marc’s.
If ever you’re in NE Ohio, find one and check it out.

Will try making tortillas – thanks for the idea! The thing about the brussels sprouts though, doesn’t the whole pound bag have to be cooked at the same time? That’s a lot of brussels sprouts!

Definitely just smoke or bbq (not sauce) some seasoned pork or beef roasts. You can shred and freeze for use in a gazillion different things. Shredded meat quesadillas…soups, stews, fajita-ish, samiches…possibilities are endless! SMoke or bbq some chicken, too and make the same kind of stuff! YUM!

Once I saw how few ingredients were in tortillas and how easy they are to make (though, like you, never round) I stopped buying the ones from the store. And thanks to you, I have discovered that a lunch made with bits and pieces is very satisfying- today it was a sliced apple, a left over bit of crocodile (gift from a neighbour), some cucumber slices, a bit of cheese, a rice cake….. and a book

Maybe he could grill some veggies on the side. Yum!
