Hello Monday!
I didn’t spend a penny on groceries last week and let me tell you Bob, I’m glad I didn’t because there was still plenty of food to eat in the pantry and garage freezer. After the HH’s big meat buying trip at the beginning of August, my grocery food budget for the month was sort of shot and sometimes, well, sometimes you just have to say to yourself… c’mon now, you’ve got plenty of food in there… use it.
And it was kind of fun. And now I’m on a mission {for the first two weeks of September anyway} to continue using what’s left. I do need to pop by the store for a gallon of milk though, and maybe a box of Good N Plenty. 😉
Pie glorious pie….. I polished off an entire blueberry pie all by myself in 36 hours. Breakfast lunch and dinner, you can’t beat that! 😉
Early last week we stopped off for lunch at Rudders Public House in Kittery, Maine. They have the best burgers and the HH loves their curry ketchup {no curry ketchup for me though}. Oh, and red onions on a burger is a must have. Who’s with me on this?
The dreaded BBQ.
With grilled zucchini and a fresh tomato/cucumber salad.
And then Beans and Weenies. {Note to self: Make a batch of cornbread today for the leftovers}.
Eggplant Parmesan. {I’ll post the recipe tomorrow.}
And last but not least… The much anticipated 25th Wedding Anniversary extravaganza. Not a kernel of corn in sight. Not even a magazine or a jar of jam. No big or exciting gift of silver {that’s what you give someone for their 25th anniversary, right?}. No card {that I would have just thrown in the trash anyway}, no candlelight dinner, no fireworks, no stroll down memory lane.
But hey, we did manage to drag ourselves down to our local pizza place for dinner. So that counts, don’t you think? Real life. It’s not all rainbows and unicorns, but I think if you can look at each other at the end of the day and still like, love and respect the person beside you, that’s the only real gift that matters.
My husband. He makes me crazy sometimes. But he’s mine. And if I had to do it all over again, he’s still the one I’d choose to walk down the aisle with.
This life we’ve created together, it’s been one big adventure after another, and I’m so glad to have him by my side.
Peace Out Girl Scouts, have a great Monday!
~Mavis

Our anniversary is coming up, and we’re planning to make apple cider doughnuts to celebrate. We had a doughnut truck instead of cake for our wedding.
We’ve mostly switched to freezer meals for fall, and it makes life so much easier. We are still making the occasional new dish to use up summer produce, including a tomato spinach pasta I made up last week and was really pleased with, but I can’t wait for fall produce.
My main cooking challenge right now is that I’m in a temporary office, so I don’t have access to a fridge or microwave. I normally pack leftovers, so now I have to really plan ahead to pack things in a thermos or have extra cold items on hand to pack instead while finding other ways to use up leftovers. This week, I’m making a big batch of chickpea salad to have on hand to make sandwich wraps.

Our 30th anniversary is coming up in December. Hubby has made reservations and all for us to go to Hawaii for a week. Since our Anniversary is so close to Christmas, we don’t usually celebrate it. We do give some kind of small present, but nothing like this trip. Needless to say, I’m really excited. It’s one place I’ve wanted to go to.

Was always jealous of that bounty of corn, but we just celebrated our 30th with our three kids in Hawaii as well. Hadn’t been over in a while so it was a nice treat. I brought all the food and cooked all of our meals EXCEPT the one where we celebrated 30 years of wedded bliss. Congrats to you on 25 years!

We just celebrated our 45 last week. We went out for pizza as well. We used a gift card from Christmas.

We celebrated 45 years of marriage as well last week. Instead of going out for pizza we celebrated with a trip to the ER. Kidney stones and all their complications. We DID receive great service and I had some tasty apple juice. AND I was with the one I love. :). Hopefully, next time we will do something different!

Happy Anniversary! Yep, I get it, this August 2, our 39 wedding anniversary was spent in the hospital as my husband had surgery the night before…so life is not always exciting! Maybe we’ll do something for the big 40!

Happy Anniversary!!! Time together is always a great gift!!!
We celebrated 22yrs this past spring, and friends kept our kiddos overnight for us. I think we grabbed chinese on the way home from dropping off the kids, and binge watched something online, lol. Pretty sure we went to bed early, to celebrate. 😉 The next day we went out to lunch at a sandwich shop, then got coffee and a coffee-shop-made oatmeal creme pie! Ohmyyumminess! We had about 24 hrs with just us, and it was nice.
We usually do cards. Dh gets all sweet and makes me cry. 🙂 The kids watch and wait for it. We’ve done gifts at yr 10 & yr 20. And we also went away for several days for #20 while the kids were at camp! It was an amazing adventure in a big city, with lots of sightseeing & yummy food! 🙂

Happy 25 th Anniversary Mavis and HH! we are celebrating 35 in April and we agree – it’s the little things that matter! Frozen Pizza and wine (extra garlic ) has been a Friday night tradition for many years that our grown kids are passing on to their families! GOD Bless

I’m curious about your weekly/monthly/yearly totals for eating out. Do you keep track of those numbers? My grocery bill it higher than yours, but I don’t think we eat out as much as you do. I also add all cleaning supplies and toiletries in with my grocery total, so that adds some, but not that much percentage wise. Anyhow, I’d love to see a “this is what we pay to eat” total, along side the grocery total…maybe? Love your updates!
