Snow {or was it the Handsome Husband} forced me to stay home for 3 full days last week. Word on the street is Mavis is a bad driver. So it only seemed natural the HH would put me on house arrest until the snow melted… Or at least turned to slush. By the time Saturday afternoon rolled around I was finally able to put the pedal to the metal and go shopping. Here is what I came home with:
Albertsons $2.77 {I used my $12 Catalina coupons from last week}
Albertsons $6.01 {Free groceries but I did have to pay tax on the razors}
Amazon/Swagbucks $ FREE
Local Produce Stand $5.00
Fred Meyer $2.79 {Turkey from the deli}
Panera $ FREE {Christmas Gift Card}
Target $1.98 {2 boxes of Tazo Tea}.
The best part about feeding my family for an average of $100 a month is the variety of food we eat. Some weeks I bring home a ton of food, other weeks I shop from our pantry and some weeks we even go a little crazy and eat seasonal delicacies.
Yes, eating on a budget can be a challenge, but as long as you can be creative in the kitchen and be open to trying new recipes, everything will work out in the end.
So Mavis wants to know… What was YOUR FAVORITE PURCHASE this week?
Total Spent This Week $18.55
Total Spent This Year $120.25
Total Spent on Garden Seeds/Supplies $38.11 {Still waiting for my special seed order but I did buy soil, trays and a few seeds from Home Depot}.

Clementines…used the $1.50 off coupon from the Albies email they sent and loved the citrus while watching the snow pile up! I was on house arrest too 🙂

Dang! Albertsons here wont let me have overage on the Schick razor coupons. 🙁 Thats ok. Free is still great and believe it or not, my hubby likes the cheap ones better than the nicer razors. Works for me!

Hey, this isn’t regarding a purchase, but for all the tea you drink, have you seen this etsy shop?

I know her and she makes REALLY cool stuff from tea bag wrappers. Just thought you’d like checking her out:).

I am really sad that my big-box grocery store is completely unwilling to keep food aside for me. They have a trash compactor system and the food never sees a regular dumpster that one can dive into – I wouldn’t mind doing that. And the other issue is that the food from a conventional grocery store is very sub-par, in my opinion. I don’t want to feed my kids anything that isn’t grown organically and I certainly want to avoid all GMO’s and processed food (American Cheese is barely food!!!). I’m seeing that you, Mavis, don’t seem to mind non-organic food. What’s up with that? I’m genuinely curious about your stance philosophically and in regards to the health of your family. My grocery bill annually is my largest expense, but I will not compromise on quality and health. Maybe Whole Foods would save food aside; have you ever asked them?
