Right now, I fee like the garden is in a bit of a holding pattern. Each day I walk out to the garden to see if there is anything to harvest, but most days, I just circle around, stare at the vegetables, and then wait. When it comes to gardening, waiting is the hardest part. Especially when it comes to tomatoes.
Some of the tomato plants are covered with green fruit, some with only one, and others are still in the flowering stage. It is absolute torture if you ask me. Will they ripen in time? What am I going to do if they don’t ripen? What am I going to do if they all ripen?
Yep, waiting is the hardest part.
Brussels Sprouts – There are still a few plants that have not gone to seed {fingers crossed}.
Dinosaur Kale is back.
Leaves of Brussels Sprouts, Swiss Chard that just won’t die and more Tri-Star strawberries.
The Walla Walla Onions are almost read to harvest.
First good sized pumpkin.
More freakin’ cabbage.
Heirloom tomatoes trying to ripen.
Hubbard Squash! We have tone of it. I’m so excited!

I’ve gotten about 4-5 ripe tomatoes off of 2 of my plants. The rest are loaded in green fruit like yours. Have no fear. If the fruit makes it to full size before the chill sets in you can always pick them and ripen them inside. I end up doing that every year.

Try epsom salt on your tomatoes. I read that you can mix a tablespoon with warm-ish water and spray it on the blooms and fruit, OR you can sprinkle 1-2T per foot of plant height into the dirt and water the plant. It made my toms ripen and produce!
Otherwise, hang in there :). It’s worth the wait. And you’ll be swimming in tomatoes and canning jars.

The tomatoes are in full swing around here, but waiting for them to ripen was torture. I have picked 105 pounds of them out of the garden so far. My daughter and I canned 18 qt jars of them yesterday. Today we make more salsa and set up cucumbers for pickling. 🙂

Tomatoes are nearing the end in my So Cal garden already. We’ve had so many of them, I’ve given them away by the bagfuls!
Cukes are nearing the end, too, but they’ve been huge this year. Zucchini, green beans, and bell peppers still going strong. Carrots should be ready anytime.
I’ve never planted a Fall garden, but I’m going to try this year.

I am having the same issue with my tomatoes here. Cabbage fly larve has destroyed my attempt at beets, cabbage and cauliflower. Slugs and snails are eating my tiny pumpkins. I am not very experienced with the gardening so I guess it will be a live and learn experience. My lettuce and chard is doing well and my sunflowers are gorgeous. I still have hope for my tomatoes and my celery though.

The tomatoes are still green here in Portland (except for the Indigo Rose, which are vivid purple-black, but still not ripe). I know they will ripen all at once, because the little buggers ALWAYS do that. Right now I am drowning in cucumbers – we’re having cucumber soup for dinner tonight, I’m giving cucumbers to everyone including perfect strangers walking down the street, and the pickle-making begins next week.
I know it’s summer because my fingernails haven’t been completely clean for several weeks, and the only people I seem to get into substantive conversations with are other gardeners.

I’ve harvested 4 tomatoes but there are 40 plants out there full of fruit just waiting to ripen. I’m now officially hovering, checking multiple times a day, worried that I’ll miss the sudden explosion of ripe tomatoes.
