16 Raised 4′ x 8′ Garden Beds:
At this point I’m thinking about filling 14 of the garden boxes with tomato plants. If I planted 8 tomato plants per box I could fit in 114 tomato plants. Do you think that would be enough for a few bottles of sauce?
Zucchini Bed: Whop T Do.
Sugar Snap Pea & Pole Bean Bed:
On Monday I planted round 1 of the Sugar Snap peas. We love to eat them raw and in stir-fry. Since I won’t be planting beans until mid-May I went ahead and planted peas now. We’ll see what happens. I plan on rigging some sort of string on the bottom portion of the wood border so the peas {and beans} can climb up towards the top of the fence.
Raised Garden Bed: Squash Patch
I have a feeling I am going to need to dig up more of the backyard to accommodate all the squash I want to try grow this summer. It will be an absolute miracle if my husband does not have me committed by the end of the summer.
Greenhouse: I’m not sure how it happened but I ended up with 2 packets of “Pole” tomato seeds. According to the package they can grow up to 6′ tall. Holy canolies. I think I’ll try to grow those in the greenhouse along with the peppers and the Moon & Star Watermelon.
The Handsome Husband dug out all of the ugly heather plants bordering the lawn, I dug up the old mulch and now it’s just a matter of bringing in soil so we can grow some pumpkins. I’m really hoping my pumpkin patch idea pans out. I think it would be neat to have a big harvest party and to pick heirloom pumpkins. Who knows, maybe I’ll even be able to grow a few 100 pounders with all that Tagro.
The raspberry beds have been cleaned up and are ready to go. This year I think I will plant onions {or leeks} and beets near the base of the canes. This will free up some garden space. I still need to finish adding the recycled mulch around the raspberry bed and plant the seeds and then I will be done with this section of the garden. Wahooo! Spring is almost here. Can you feel it?

I am in awe. You are making the very coolest garden space ever. Can’t wait to see it as it comes along. How much land are you working with?
Mavis says
We have a little over an acre. If I could dig it all up I would. 🙂

Just stumbled on to your blog and I just LOVE it! I live in a historical neighborhood in the middle of downtown. Urban agriculture is really popular here so we’ve got two garden beds built and going. I’m going to add your blog to my reader for inspiration.
Mavis says
Thanks! Yes, urban gardens rule! 🙂

AHH!! I LOVE it. Down here in Texas i am very very jealous of your beautiful pacific northwestern dirt. Putting that many beds into my rocky clay soil would take a decade!
