There are so many of us out there who like making gifts, and well, sometimes we can get in a bit of a rut. So for the next few weeks on the blog, each Friday I’ll be sharing a new {to me at least} easy peasy tutorial with the idea of gift giving in mind.
Last week I showed you how to make a block print towel, this week I’d like to show you some seed packet wreaths I recently made.
Seed packet wreaths are something you could make very inexpensively if you purchased your seed packets at the dollar store {they usually sell them 2 for $1} and bought a foam wreath, some dried moss and cotton garden gloves.
Or, you could go all out and buy better quality seeds {Botanical Interests} a nice garden tool {my favorites are HERE and HERE} some garden markers, and maybe even a little flower pot to hold the markers in, a nice set of gardening gloves or a cool enamel gardening mug or something else that would be meaningful the the recipient.
The sky is the limit! The best part about seed packet wreaths is how personalized you can make one for the intended recipient.
DIY Seed Packet Wreath Supply List
14″ – 18″ grapevine wreath {Got vines? Here’s how to make your own}
Seed Packets {Pick a theme: Herbs, Tomatoes, Container Vegetables, Flowers etc.}
Garden Markers
Garden Tool
Twine
Scissors
Hot Glue Gun/Glue
Directions
Start by arranging the largest item {garden tool/gloves/flower pot} onto your wreath. Fill in the empty spots with seed packets, garden markers or anything else you want to add. Once you have everything arranged the way you like it, use hot glue and/or twine to secure everything in place. {If you end up with an empty space on your wreath, you can always add a bow.} It’s that easy!
I made my wreaths knowing I would include a set of handmade garden markers to go along with them but because the garden markers are terra cotta, placing them on the wreaths was a little bit tricky.
One solution I found was to place a few markers in a small 4″ pot and attach it to the wreath with twine. For the others, I think I’ll just wrap the terra cotta markers up and gift them along with the wreath in a small box with some crinkle paper.
For the pepper wreath, I also added a few of my pottery ornaments for a little color. The possibilities are absolutely endless on these seed packet wreaths and they were so much fun to make, I’m certain the intended recipients will enjoy them as well.
Christmas, it’s right around the corner… Let the DIY gifts begin! 😉
Have a wonderful weekend everyone, stay warm.

Gardening themed holiday decorations can be so colorful! This wreath reminds me of a Christmas tree I decorated for charity several years ago. The tree topper was a wooden (decorative) watering can, perched as if it was about to water the tree. I bought up as many colorful seed packets at season’s end as I could find, and I strung them on twine to make the roping. I found colorful gardening gloves on sale, and they were ornaments, and I used some very thick (but light) cording from a fabric store that I covered in colored tape so they looked like pieces of hose and added nozzles from the dollar store to the ends. Other ornaments included small stuffed bunnies, plastic vegetables, wooden birdhouses, whatever I found that seemed to represent gardening. The tree skirt was a cut-out astroturf circle edged in burlap ribbon tied with twine, and the under tree items included a children’s wheelbarrow and gardening tools set with a Farmer’s Almanac. Great fun to shop for, assemble and it was wonderfully colorful. If you plan on doing something like this and can wait until next year, you have many chances to gather some great “ornaments” on sale over the year.
