When life gives you pine needles, make pine potpourri, right? A few years ago I made some homemade cinnamon potpourri for my neighbors for Christmas. It was a hit so I decided to switch things up and make a different scent this year. And nothing says Christmas like the awesome smell of pine.
Supplies You’ll Need
Pinecones
Small branches from a pine, juniper, or cypress tree
10 drops of pine essential oil {I use Edens Garden Essential Oils}
5 drops of cedar essential oil
HUGE Bowl
Plastic gloves
Bags {if you are going to bag it for individual gifts}
Directions
Toss all of the ingredients into the bowl in the order listed. Toss to mix.
Allow the mixture to sit for a couple of hours so the smells intermingle and become a little more intense {cause come on, when you’re trapped together in a small confined space, everything because more intense!}.
Then, bag the potpourri and tie it up with a fancy schmancy bow. And BAM neighbor gifts are done and your house now smells delicious!

I used these essential oils and plastic bags.

Mavis,
have you ever made “cinnamon” cones? I bought some at Lowes but the fragrance has disappeared so thought I might order some essential cinnamon oil to refurbish them and now see there are 2 kinds on this site..1 is cinnamon leaf and the other is cinnamon bark. The bark one is quite a bit more than the leaf and I wondered if you or anyone had used either and had a recomendation.

Hi Mavis,
Would you please post this on one of your Pinterest boards? I love it. You have good taste.
Thank you.

Thank you for sharing these! I can’t wait to make both the pine potpourri and the pine cones. I love the idea of scented pine cones but cinnamon is not my favorite scent so I’m looking forward to making my own! I hope you don’t mind but I linked to both of your posts in an Edens Garden Facebook group (Safe Use of Edens Garden Essential Oils). Now I’m off to check out the rest of your blog! Thanks again!

Do you just sit this out dry or simmer?
Mavis Butterfield says
You just set it out dry, like in a bowl on a coffee table or end table.

Thank you!

I have pine shavings from a pine tree we had to remove and the tree service ground down the stump.
Would the shaving work for good potpourri?

HI Do I need to dry the branches before packaging them ?
