If you’re looking for a simple fall craft decoration that Martha Stewart would be proud of, you need to make these little pumpkins. They look so fancy, yet can be made fairly inexpensively. I was surprised how quickly I busted through them and how great they looked displayed around my house. In fact these velvet pumpkins are one of my favorite fall decoration crafts I’ve ever made!
The best part is, once you have the process down, you can adapt them easily. If you like large ones, go for it. Want really bold fall colors? Easily doable. You can customize them to match your home decor or adjust them to fit pretty much any space. Here’s how you do it:
Supplies
Plush Velvet Fabric {you can use real velvet if you don’t mind the expense!}
Large Hand Sewing Needle
Heavy Duty Thread
Uncooked Beans or Rice
Dried Pumpkin Stems
Directions
Find a circular plate or round pizza pan {depending on how large you want your pumpkins, you can use various sizes but they need to be at least about 6 inches across to make it work}. Trace a circle around the plate onto the velvet. Cut out the circle.
Thread your needle and then make a running stitch around the outside edge. Pull the thread about 1/4th of the way through to cinch it together into the shape of a bowl, but don’t close. Place beans or rice in the middle of the fabric {enough to line the bottom} and then pull the edges closed tightly by sewing the top shut in a criss-cross pattern.
Glue stem to top using a hot glue gun, and then you’re done! Repeat until you have the desired number of pumpkins for your velvet pumpkin patch.
Fall, it’s the most wonderful time of the year. 🙂
Have a great day everyone,

So cute and simple! The hardest part is finding the dried stems! A good craft to do with my grandsons. Thank you!

I did these a decade ago and used sticks from the yard. It looks nice and rustic. You put the end of the stick in the body of the pumpkin and that holds it in place. If you get the pumpkin tops later, you can always replace it .

I did these last year. Fun. I used rice and some fiberfill. I bought the fill at goodwill. Also bought some used dresses for the fabric. Used fall colors not just velvet material
Stems can be found in the bottom of most all of the big boxes at the grocery stores. I saved some stems from last year to make this years gifts/decorations

I love these for fall decorating. Beautiful and fun to make. On a side note: I have a friend who began making these many many years ago to sell to small shops, etc. I’m thinking at least 15+ years ago. She would come get the stems from our fields when we grew pumpkins. Oprah put her pumpkins into her “favorite things” yearly show and her business boomed. Could hardly keep up with production! Fun to see good things happen to nice people.
