How To Turn Hooked Rugs Into Pillows
“Would it be possible for you to write a tutorial on how you finish your hooked rugs into pillows? I’ve not been happy with the instructions I find online. I figure you must have a good method since you are so prolific.”

I love turning a primitive hooked rug into pillows because it opens up a plethora of options for creativity!
Couches and corners beg to have a hooked rug pillow sometimes, right?
Pillows are also one of the most popular items in my Etsy shop, so I know you feel the same way. 🙂
As you probably know, I only use 100% wool for all my rugs. The same is true for the backing of the pillows.
While my step-by-step process isn’t unique, here are a few images of what I do to help guide you.
If you’re just starting, take your time to line up the hems and use as many long pins as you need to hold it securely.
I never start at the corner, but instead about two inches away
Reserve a small hole to add your stuffing!
I use wool scraps to stuff my pillows. Again, 100% wool, inside and out!
Beautiful!

Hand-stitching to make the seams tight makes sense!
Is the fabric you hook into (the linen-color/white-ish fabric) also wool? If so, what is it called and where does one find it?

I hook all my rugs on super soft rug hooking linen. 🙂

Mavis, I’m really sorry your gardening season is such a challenge and disappointment. Don’t throw in the towel until the bitter end, a few days of sun and warmth can change everything.
We’re going thru a wet period also, but not without breaks of sun. The bugs are a problem because of the constant dampness though. I’m fighting potato bugs, Japanese beetles and cucumber beetles (so far) not fun…
I have an Amish community near me and if I’m having need I purchase bulk vegetables from them to can or freeze. I guess if there’s a will there’s a way.

That’s beautiful and I bet it will last a very long time. ☺️
