Even though I totally went over my budget last week we were able to put a lot of great things in the the pantry. My goal for this week is to not buy anything to help offset last week’s splurges.
Mom’s Pantry – Free
Apparently my mom has found a better brand of tuna because she sent The Girl home with all her Chicken of the sea. We.Are.Not.Picky. 🙂
Costco $15.78
The HH and The Girl LOVE Babybel cheese so we picked those up and some spinach filled raviolis that were on sale at Costco.
Fred Meyer $10.99
Last week at Fred Meyer we picked up a few friday freebies {Ice Tea, beef stew} as well as milk for $1.00 per half gallon. The HH finally ran out of coffee {my mom buys him a boatload every year for Christmas} and so we picked up the store brand {26 ounces} for $4.99 and the HH said it was pretty good.
Albertsons $6.00
Cheese slices were on sale for $1.50 per 8 ounce package.
The Church Lady – Barter
I ran out of butter on saturday so I called up the Church Lady and asked if we could barter a stick of butter for some onions.
Free U Pick Plums!
Odds and ends from the garden. These days were are picking tomatoes and beans pretty much daily and it’s AWESOME.

Picked 6 bags of apples from a neighbor’s 2 trees last week. Have made 19 quarts of applesauce so far, with about 25 more to go. Got too hot to make the rest so I plan to finish up tomorrow. I used jars I had and lids I had so it was completely free! Lots of labor to can though, so that is the only downside. Worth it to be swimming in homemade sugar free applesauce though. That should last us about 8 months. Woot woot!

That all looks very yummy! I just pickled green beans and carrots so have quite a few jars I would gladly trade for tomatoes…my tomatoes have kind of quit producing. The pickled beans are super yummy….the carrots were just meh. It is supposed to be really humid here all week so I am trying to think of things I can make early in the day. I have a 6 burner gas stove and when it is hot…it is hot in the kitchen.

Mavis,
Go ask for samples of your moisturizer until you are able to purchase again. They will give you a couple weeks worth at a time usually:)

I was gifted 50 lb of garden tomatoes last week – on a Tuesday. LOL. I don’t have much home time during the week so just cored and froze them, peelings on, for processing later.
Also received the offer of more tomatoes and some green peppers for this coming Wednesday. I think I’m just going to have to take them. I can’t turn away delicious home grown tomatoes, no matter how many I have on hand. If we get a rainy day, I want to can some salsa, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce (I just blend the whole tomato, peeling and all – and call it “sauce”, and might can some tomato soup.
Love summer vegetables, especially free ones!

I got some free tomatoes and lots of green peppers. I ate the tomatoes and sliced and froze the peppers.

Our winter squash is alive (for the moment), but we have a terrible time trying to grow summer squash. Our neighbor, for some reason, has much better results and leaves town often. Each time they leave, we get a lovely bag of squash and whatever else will go bad before they return. I fry the yellow squash as a dinner side dish, and I’ve been grating and freezing the zucchini to use in zucchini bread. It’s an excellent arrangement, though it makes me not want to bother even trying to grow summer squash.

Yellow squash can be used for zucchini bread also. I cook yellow squash with other vegetables peppers onions mushrooms celery and any ground meat ans add tomato puree and crushed tomato es with spices serve over pasta or eat plain also freezes well

Okay I have read and re-read. What is with all the teeny Tabascos? How has no one asked about this? You can’t post a photo with THAT many teeny Tabascos and not explain them!! LOL
Mavis Butterfield says
My mom gave them to me. I have no idea where she got them. 🙂

They are too cute 😀
