Yesterday started with a half hearted attempt to clean out the craft room {but didn’t make much progress}. I really need to get this done before gardening season starts {next week!}.
Not only do I need to sort through all my extra bits of wool scraps, I need to bag them up {along with a bunch of other odds and ends} and get them listed on Etsy for someone else to enjoy.
After that part is done, then I can remove everything, clean, and put it all back together again with a better working floorplan that makes more sense.
But the sorting… It’s tedious and not a lot of fun. 🙁
I did however finish all my pottery tasks. All the chickens, whales and bees I plan on turning into ornaments this summer have been stamped out and are ready for the kiln {once they all dry out}.
Painting is the easy part. I’ll save that for a sunny day this summer and do it all on the picnic table.
I also repotted 125+ tomato plants. Which took a while, but hey, now it’s done and all I have left to do is the peppers and a few herbs which I’ll probably tackle today.
I also need to start some more seedlings… I’ll wait until the end of the month to plant the sunflowers but I think I’ll go ahead and get the other ones started.
I just checked the forecast and it’s calling for temps in the 60’s from this saturday onward.
Have you ordered from Baker Creek Seeds before? I love that they include a free packet of seeds with your order. This time around they sent a packet of spoon tomato seeds.
Have you grown these before? Talk about teeny tiny tomatoes!
My new work tables were also delivered….. right in the middle of the driveway. I think I’ll wait until the HH gets back though and have him put them together for me.
Linner yesterday was stuffed shells from the freezer section.
And last but not least… Late yesterday afternoon I broke out the sawzall and trimmed cut down two trees. {The HH is going to freak out.}
Which, in hindsight, was a mistake because now I’m totally sore and stiff and walking around hunched over like a 90 year old. But hey! That just means I can have a lazy day today, right?
Meanwhile, in Barcelona, Spain…
The HH and The Girl continued their walk around the Gothic Quarter {and loved every minute of it}.
They’ve been to a bunch of museums already and said the Museu Frederic Marès has been one of their favorites so far.
They also visited the Plaça de Sant Felip Neri {you can read about its history HERE}.
And the Plaςa De Sant IU.
They’ve also been eating up a storm. Yesterday’s best find was hot chocolate and churros.
The real deal. Fried up right before your very eyes. Does it get any better than that?
Oh man, I wish I was there.

I grew their spoon tomatoes once. I think they did okay, but they are time consuming to pick, and we had several tiny varieties that year. They were definitely less aggressive/productive than the white currant ones, but those plants are monsters that would take the house if I let them.
Instead of sorting ALL the scraps, could you list some as sort of mystery grab bags where it’s just a random assortment instead of a curated one? You could put that each bag has at least so many colors, pieces, lengths, etc. but not have to carefully sort or photograph beyond that. Might save some time and reach a different Etsy audience.
Mavis Butterfield says
I wouldn’t do mystery bags only because I wouldn’ buy a mystery bag myself.
Mel says
I guess it depends on how much there is to sort. I’m not usually one to buy mystery bags, but I actually have done that with quilting cotton on occasion. So, tons of mystery bags probably wouldn’t sell, but a few might.

I am so glad you orders tableS. I didn’t think just one would. be enough. (Oh mercy, you must be so tired of us all expressing our opinions.)
I was doing some aggressive tree pruning on Saturday and a branch fell on my face and scratched it. It seems to be healing up nicely , but……………..I do love to trim trees!!!!! I have found it easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission in regard to tree trimming. Hope you recover quickly.
Thanks for all the Spain photos. They are beautiful!

Do you punch holes in the bottom of those red plastic cups or not? Do you reuse them or toss after 1 season….. just curious. Saw someone else doing this and wondered.
Mavis Butterfield says
I do not put holes in the bottom of the cups and this is the third time I’ve used these same cups. The plants really only sit in them for about 30 days. When I’m done with them I rinse and stack them in the garage for the next season.

I’ve grown currant tomatoes, which are those spoon tomatoes. They are the original wild tomatoes native to the Americas. The bigger tomatoes we are used to are descendants of those. They are prolific and they need a LOT of room. A tomato cage won’t cut it for these, they need a cattle panel trellis or a large homemade cage.
Mavis Butterfield says
Thanks for the top about the cow panel!

How do you pronounce “kiln” Mavis? I distinctly remember being in elementary art class and my teacher pronouncing it as “kill” but have heard both. Maybe a fun question to pose to your readers? I grew up in NYState for reference.

WOWSA! 125 tomato plants! I have a feeling you’ll be selling a lot of tomatoes at Duck Lady’s stand!

Ooooooh–those churros and chocolate! Yes, please!
And jealous of getting to see the Henry Moore exhibit! I’m actually teaching my 5th graders about his artwork on Friday!

I ordered from Baker Creek this year and got those spoon tomatoes. Never tried them before but it’ll be fun to see how they do.
Those churros and chocolate look amazing! And the architecture is so beautiful.
Will you start your sunflowers inside? I bought a few varieties – I have dreams of a large sunflower patch- but I can’t decide if I should direct sow, or start indoors and transplant.
Mavis Butterfield says
I always start my sunflowers inside because of the birds. They like to pull up the tender seedlings.

I grew the Baker creek spoon tomatoes 2 years ago, loved the flavor!! But be warned, 1 single plant will turn into an entire bush! It was over 6 ft tall and 2 ft wide!! Prolific as heck and we loved it.
Enjoy them.

Okay one of the main ways I sort things out is by playing music while I work good vibrations. My mind keeps the rhythm so find a radio station and listen to the music. It may help you speed up the work task. I would also make your snacks ahead of time to also plan surprises for others as well, I didn’t know a tree cutting exercise was in the works so do forget to add to your list the other things you do. keep going

Baker Creek is close to where I live, they are right by the Laura Ingalls-Wilder home! The best seeds I have tried from there are the yellow monster bell peppers, they are as big as you hand and produce like crazy, at least here in Midwest Missouri they do.
