I was so sore from cutting down those trees on Tuesday, that I stayed in my pajamas all day yesterday and only did two things.
Hook and repot my pepper plants.
I still have two other {smaller} rugs that I had wanted to get finished before this weekend’s Etsy update, but I decided to pull out that giant rug I’ve been wanting to hook for over a year now and get started on that instead.
Here’s a look at the back of the rug.
I’ve been listening to American Moonshot by Douglass Brinkley and it’s rather interesting. I didn’t realize when I started the audiobook though that it was 17 hours long! Yikes.
Meanwhile, in Spain…
Yesterday the HH and The Girl woke up early and took the high speed train from Barcelona to Madrid.
They said both the train station and the train itself were very nice {and clean!} and that the ride was comfortable.
They even bought a little something from the food car {which in my opinion is always something you have to do while on a train} and sat back and watched the countryside rush by.
Lots of vineyards and farms was the report they gave.
After they arrived in Madrid, they walked to the hotel, dropped their bags and then headed over to the Museo Del Prado.
Basically, they are in love with Madrid. It’s all very clean, very nice and the cafe culture in Spain is out of this world {and the prices are reasonable too!} is what they keep telling me.
I asked them to try and find a supermarket so we could see what the prices on everyday food staples were like, but they’re having such a good time with their “research” that I’m not sure if that’s going to happen.
I’ll keep you posted. 😉

P.S. If you could go on a “research” ie: vacation anywhere in the world right now, where would YOU go?

We are headed to the Shetlands in September: Mainland and Unst. But, my next trip will be Copenhagen.

Hope you recover well.
I would go to England………London of course, but also the countryside, Beatrix Potter’s home, small gardens, Bath……….all the quintessential things………sigh…….
Still looking to plant one of those Money Trees to fund this.

I would really love to go to the Galápagos Islands. I have always had it on my mind since reading Beak of the Finch and a few other books in high school. Sounds magical and untouched.
I have two Covid trips that were canceled…..a trip to Crete with my hubby and kids for a month and a week Safari in Kenya with just the hubby. I still feel a loss emotionally and financially (only got a partial refund on airfare) for those trips that should have been. They will not happen anytime soon for us, so it sucks. We just renewed the kids’ passports in mid-February and we still have not received them as they are so far behind on processing. I guess I am thankful we did not look at a trip out of the country this summer.

I renewed my passport at the end of December and got it beginning of March, so you shouldn’t have to wait too much longer!

I love the woman in front of the “congreso de los diputados” in her pretty dress, sunhat, and sturdy sandals. She looks like she’s on a mission.
Cheryl says
Why didn’t you go with them?

I would imagine someone needs to watch Lucy. It’s a compromise my HH and I willingly make.

Bali or Belize. Lot of ‘slow life’ and snorkling. That’s it.

The train in Spain
Looks better than a plane!
LOL Sorry, couldn’t help myself, but man oh man is that one gorgeous station and train. Hubs and I had dreamt of going to Barcelona before the pandemic, but we’re still feeling leary of travel to be honest. That’s why I love seeing all these swoony photos of such a beautiful place.
Hope you feel better soon from all that hacking down of trees. I always visit your blog and think you’re a very capable person – look at you cutting down trees!!
Christina says
I know, right? Could you pass along the seeds to that money tree if you come across them? LOL Those are some valuable seeds indeed!!
Actually we have been to the UK a couple of times…the costs while there are quite reasonable. (I mean for food, museums, etc.) But the getting there seems a lot pricier now than when we travelled – flights, etc have really sky rocketed!

I’m happy you’re working on the giant rug you’ve planned for a year! You needed to do something truly enjoyable to mix it up with your work list. I can’t wait to see it done… what you have so far is beautiful!

I agree. It looks like it will be a beauty. I’m continually amazed at how much you accomplish in a day Mavis. Even on an “off” day!!

I was in Spain last week, including Madrid. We wandered a couple of grocery stores in search of gluten free snacks for my husband including an Aldi in Seville. In general I’d say prices were lower but package sizes were smaller too. Mostly I was agog at the full legs of jamon (cured pork), the fabulous selections of cheeses, and the really good looking breads in their bakery sections.
If they want to find one to wander through, there is a department store called “El Corte Ingles” about a block off of Plaza De La Sol that has a full grocery in the basement. There are also several Mercados near the center of town that are buildings with individual merchants (kind of like pike place market) and a supermarket called “Dia” nearby also.
We found the palace visit to be good (get reservations in advance to avoid the worst of the lines) and the cafes to be fabulous.

Why did you not go on that wonderful trip with your husband and daughter????❤️

I would love to take a “research” trip to Corfu.

I’m very curious about how crowded the cities in Spain are. Could you ask this and report back in one of your updates?
Dianne says
Oh, I would love to be home for a week without my HH. It’s probably been 11 years since he has had one overnighter! We’ve been retired for 4 years. Tome for that solo trip for him. There is just so much I could get done in one week! Plus, you are on your own schedule!
Glad you are having fun, Mavis. What beautiful roses around the doorway in that one photo. I would love to go to Africa to see all the beautiful animals!

I am headed to the Yucatan Peninsula soon to celebrate my sons big 40th birthday. An entire gaggle of friends and family are joining us-fun times shall be had by all I am sure.

Hmmm . . . Norway, Sweden, Scotland or Germany. So hard to decide!
Heather says
Right now somewhere on an island or maybe a room over the ocean sounds nice. I have heard about them in Tahti or some place similar.
Sue S. says
For me it would be Scotland or Iceland.
Jamie says
Sweden vs. Norway. Rumor is that Norway has much, much higher prices and everyone in the country goes to Sweden on the weekends to eat out and stock up on food.
Linda says
Ireland!! Sigh…
I think it’s great that your hubby & daughter are making memories together! A father daughter trip sounds wonderful! And Spain…the pictures look beautiful! Thanks for sharing their pictures & both Maine & Spain adventures!
