Hello and Happy Monday! It was a fantastic week in the food department with lots of salads and meals close to home. Or rather the Airbnb. 😉 It will feel SO GOOD to finally be settled… But until we are, we’re just sort of wingin’ it.
I made chicken fried rice for dinner one night {actually Trader Joe’s made the fried rice, I just added extra peas and chicken}. And although we went on 2 dates, we only ate out once.
We had poutine for the first time. Have you ever had poutine? It’s basically french fries that have been smothered in gravy and cheese curds. It was excellent!!
I’m pretty sure you’d only want to eat it about once a year though as I can’t imagine it’s very good for you.
I made prepared the spinach and cheese raviolis from Costco. Those too were another winner.
Market Basket $21.22
And then I was tired of heavy foods and so the HH went grocery shopping and the only things on his list were salad things. The bran flakes were a splurge. Ha!
We had avocado toast… But without the salt and pepper. I don’t know what I did with the salt and pepper shakers {they were here last week}. Guacamole needs salt, don’t you think!?
The Good Life Market $29.72
Since we were in the area, we also popped by The Good Life Market in Raymond, Maine to see what was new. I think the last time we had been there was over 3 years ago and I’m happy to report the place is still packed with AWESOME take away food.
I wanted to get a slice of their strawberry rhubarb pie but I forgot to grab it on the way out. Maybe I should go to the farmer’s market this week and see if I can get some rhubarb because the recipe I have for strawberry rhubarb pie is a 10/10.
And then there were the big salads.
Who says you can’t have salad every night of the week?
I even ate tuna salad one night.
After a few weeks of eating not so healthy meals, it was good to be on the winning side this past week. Fingers crossed we can keep this up a little longer.
I do think I’ll hit up the farmers market {or maybe a few of them?} this week and see what’s out there.
How about YOU? How did you do this past week? Have you been to a farmers market lately? What do you look for when you go?
Have a great day everyone,
~ Mavis

I highly recommend the poutine at Duck Fat in Portland if you’re ever there and craving some. Their burgers are also fantastic.
Lisa says
If you go to DuckFat, it’s pretty mandatory that you get a shake too.

I never thought about red sauce for the ravioli. I’ve always put basil pesto on them !
Jill Hamilton says
You MUST not be Italian!?
Emily says
Many Italians eat their ravioli with butter and sage rather than red sauce. This 1/4 Italian thinks both ways taste great
Wendy Steele says
I’ve only ever HAD red sauce on my ravioli. And I’m no where near Italian—- I’m Irish-German. I just grew up with it…..lolololol
cat says
Def not Italian in the least. I’ve for the longest time only bothered with red sauce on spaghetti and meatballs.
Kathy Christiansen says
Guacamole absolutely requires salt!

OR Trader Joe’s Everything bagel seasoning!
Sue says
You are 1000% correct, Barbara! ! I’ll never go back to plain salt on avocado toast OR guac. Trader Joe’s Everything Bagel seasoning or GTFO!
Christy Rose says
I never thought about putting diced apple in a tuna salad, I must try that. I put diced tomato in it which we love, and of course celery as celery makes everything better as well as adding crunch!
Lucy from South Carolina says
I was thinking the same thing about apple in tuna salad. I’m not fond of tuna salad but would probably eat it with apple in it.
sandy says
My family lives in Quebec City-poutine is a staple. It is crack.
cheers
Katherine says
We love cheese tortellini salad. Tomatoes, cukes, peppers, or any variety of raw veggies tossed in with the slightly chilled tortellini. Add your favorite dressing, pesto or EVOO. Perfect to use those veggies from the garden.
Judy says
Hi Mavis. My husband was born and raised in Montreal, so we do have poutine. But I don’t make it too often. Yes, I do agree that avocado is much better with a little salt. All the food you ate looks so good.
Tracey says
I never wanted a cracker more than I want those Mediterranean ones in the photo above! They look so good!

I just checked their website and there are 9 different ones to choose from!! Wow.
