The ground is finally beginning to thaw and so the last few days afternoons in the garden have been busy ones. Clearing up fallen limbs, digging up plants, clearing garden beds and moving bricks… I think by next weekend we might be ready to install the fence.
In preparation for smoothing out the new garden area, we’ve been pulling up plants, bulbs and crowns like mad. So far, we’re about 75% of the way there. The ground on the side of the house {where there’s mostly shade} is still a bit frozen, but we’re hoping we’ll be able to get to that area in a few more days once the temps warm up.
As for all the stuff we’ve pulled up so far, it will all be going to my friend Heather. Heather LOVES free stuff, especially plants {as long as they’re not daylilies} and it makes me happy they’ll be going to a good home.
A clean slate. A new beginning. We’re almost there. And I couldn’t be happier. š
Have a wonderful Thursday everyone,
~Mavis

I love seeing your progress in your garden. It helps me get into the gardening mood…and with it starting to warm up in my neck of the woods, I will be digging dirt and planting as well. I just love springtime. It always brings a new beginning.
By the way, your bathroom remodel turned out great!

I have to laugh as you dig up what previous owners had planted. I figured that is what would happen at my previous house so I dug up and potted most of the native and uncommon plants I had planted there and divided hosta’s and other perennials so that I could take some and leave some. Our new home is about 35 miles away so they were easy to transport. Now I have about 75 or so pots ready to go at my new house. I figured I saved myself well over a thousand dollars.
On another note, what is the name/shade of the white interior paint you are using in your new home?
Mavis Butterfield says
Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace. Eggshell for the walls, satin for the trim.

I love seeing your landscaping transformations!
Last week I made my own radish seed tapes and planted them. Checked them yesterday morning and nothing….now the garden is covered in snow!
I started White Swan Echinacea indoors and those have sprouted – yay!

I always wait so the bees and bugs have time to come out of hibernation before pulling up the old foliage, etc. Doesn’t it also hurt the soil structure to work it a lot when it’s that cold? But you are successful so i guess it’s ok.
We just had frost last night in St. Louis. I’m still waiting till nature is ready.
