Fact: Teenagers will always need money.
Fact: People are less likely to chat it up with a teenager staining an exterior fence with headphones on than a housewife with earbuds in. {Odd, but true.}
Fact: You fill find lot’s and lot’s of rocks when you create a new garden bed.
Fact: I’ll never get tired of sorting seeds. Ever.
Fact: Lucy takes her job as supervisor very seriously.
Fact: Playing in the dirt is cool.
Fact: Companion planting is the bomb diggety! In this 5×10 garden bed I planted 6 tomato plants, 10 cauliflower plants, 12 romaine lettuce starts, 10 cucumber plants, 6 patty pan squash, and a couple of rows each of carrots, parsnips, and radish. I know what you’re thinking…. Amazeballs. Right?
Fact: Even the most mundane garden chores like digging up grass to create a new garden bed, is FREAKING EXCITING when you’ve been cooped up indoors and afraid to go outside for 8 months.
🙂 🙂 🙂 Freakin’ exciting!!
Keep Calm and Garden On my friends… It’s time to dig!

I never get tired of sorting seeds either. I keep the original packaging and put the seeds in a jewelry/bead zip up bag (can get these at Michaels, Joann’s or other craft stores). I then put the bag back in the package, then those into a freezer bag and back into my freezer. If I could take those out to stare at every day, I’d just love it. I don’t have anywhere to plant this year though.
Good luck with companion planting. It looks so beautiful so far 🙂

Rock on, Mavis!
We still had frost warnings when I left home. Some family things have popped up so this trip is extended. When I return, I will have some containers if all the decent plant starts have not been sold. We have enough winter storm damage that a garden is bumped out for home repair time. Thank goodness I can enjoy your garden vicariously!

Someone mentioned the “Maintenance” mode message they had been getting. I’ve been getting it a lot too. It isn’t your blog specifically, it’s the website you must use, the host or whatever. But, it’s undergoing maintenance an awful lot lately!
The message says…
“Maintenance mode
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Our website is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance.
Thank you for your understanding.”
It isn’t related to clearing our cache or cookies or etc.
By the way, is your fence taller than you planned? I thought I read you had to build a short one to please the HOA.
I think the neighbors who wanted to talk when you were out just wanted to talk, maybe welcome you to the neighborhood. Maybe they wanted to commiserate about the HOA! Since they were housewives/husbands too they don’t have as much in common with a teenager, and may assume they were hired help.

I’ve been having trouble getting into the website as well. It doesn’t say maintenance mode, but I invariably have to delete browser history, do the ipconfig /flushdns on the DOS screen just to get the first screen to load up and then if I wish to see the comments, I have to open them up in a new window. This has been going on for about 2 to 3 weeks. I even checked for malware, but I constantly have to do the browser history delete to access the site. But I am determined to get here!

All those facts are awesome and SO true!!! Love your blog! Started blog stalking in Janurary which was perfect timing for Arizona to start a garden. I was so inspired by your blog, so I did and have fallen in LOVE. My boyfriend is jealous of my garden AKA my happy place because I spend so much time there. So thank you for introducing me to this wonderful green world. I was wondering what soil did you fill your beds with? I know in some other posts you said you have it delivered in but is it top soil, screen dirt? I feel like my landscape company has way too many choices. One of which is “garden soil”- 30% Screened Dirt,30% Mulch,20% Manure,20% Sand. I filled my first bed with bagged soil and compost, then my second with plain ol dirt and compost. Im getting ready to build my third bed and am wanting to explore other options. What do you think?
You rock Mavis and thank you again for all your hard work into the blog! It is appreciated!

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who like to sort her seeds. HA!
So… Can you share what’s going to go into that new garden bed? Just being nosy. 🙂
