Quote of the Day “Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your inner voice.”
Hello Friday. I am so glad you are here.
The HH told me this morning he think’s he might be getting sick. And apparently he can’t get sick. There is too much on his plate for next week so would I mind if he slept in the guest room. Husband’s. They’re funny. I want to tell him that if he already feels like he is getting sick, there’s probably no way to avoid it.
But I won’t tell him that. Instead I’ll pump him full of Vitamin C, hot soup and smoothies and hope for the best.
Any tips? I sure he would love to hear them.
Have a great day everyone,
♥ Mavis

Thieves Essential Oil (Young Living), one drop diluted in 4 drops of a carrier, rubbed on chest. Sure bet for a cold symptom reducer :-). You should use it too, to aid in prevention. Elderberry Syrup, too! LynneinMN.
l bryant says
Oil of oregano. All of my Italian relatives used this and they were never sick!! 2 drops under the tongue daily. It has natural antibiotic properties.
Ginger says
This stuff tastes so gross, but it WORKS so well! You can also get it in capsule form (liquid inside) at natural food/vitamin stores.
Nora says
Cotton socks, ice cold from really cold water and still wet, just squeeze them a little to make sure the are not dripping. He should put them on when going to bed and put thick wool socks over. Helps the body to heat up and works healing like a small fever.
The socks will feel really bad at the beginning, so not for the faint hearted, but will dry quickly.
Works wonders – honestly!
Mavis says
That is one I’m certain he would NOT go for, regardless of how effective it is. 😉
Nora says
Must be a male problem – no matter how horrible his cold, my husband doesn’t do it either. But the women I know all tried it and swear by it. Maybe we are a bit tougher and know we are needed at home and work and therefore “suffer” a little more for one or two nights but are better earlier.
Lea Ann H. says
Another vote for Thieves Oil !! Apply topically as previously mentioned, or add a few drops to some honey and stir into hot tea or water. Works well in our household to shorten the duration and ease symptoms when we have the crud.
Michelle says
Another vote for oregano oil. Few drops by mouth keeps the sick away! Works every time. Harsh taste but so worth it.
Four thieves oil on bottoms of feet. Breathe oil by DoTerra has been a lifesaver as well. Rub some on each nostril and feel better.
Brenda says
I just heard this week on some tv show that a study showed that Vitamin C didn’t help, but zinc did.
Kari says
Oil of oregano on the bottom of his feet!!!
Mavis says
Really? I’ve never heard of this one. We might just have to give it a try. Do you know how it works?
Kari says
Larger pores on the bottom of feet allow for quicker absorbtion. Also, our soles are tougher, so less skin irritation from some oils. Also, you can look into reflexology, but our feet are connected to every part of our body. It is one of the best places to apply oils. As a side benefit, stinkier ones like oregano can be covered up with socks!
Kari says
You can read about the benefits of oregano here: http://www.medicalmedium.com/blog/oregano

Zicam always works for me.

my only advice is for YOU–stay away from him!
Mavis says
Ha! Best advice all day!!

Garlic and Echinacea pills, if im getting sick 2 pills each 2 to 3 times a day.
Mavis says
Thanks. I might have to try rounding some up.
Delores says
Oh! I have to tell you what I did! I am so proud of my(non-very-upcycling)self!
I took an old wool sweater that I had knit for my husband that had shrunk. (Ugh!). I cut out two largeish squares. And then I used them as lining for a couple of potholders. The outside material is pure cotton. So far, they work well. Sometimes I worry too much about these things, but then I remind myself that people have been using just dish towels for a very long time, so my pot holder should be fine.
I thought of it when I read your bit about making mittens from sweaters. So I just wanted to share. 🙂
As for a cold, elderberry syrup. As much as he can take. Echinacea tea, zinc lozenges, Emergen-C, ginger-lemon-honey-cinnamon tea. And good old chicken noodle soup with a good amount of garlic and onion. Throw it all his way, hope something sticks. 🙂
Mavis says
That is an AWESOME way to upcycle. Great job!
Mrs. Chow says
Things that work, and the sooner you start them the better:
1. ZICAM zinc lozenges. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!
2. Elderberry syrup as someone else said, especially the brand “Sambucol.”
3. Emergen-C brand powdered vitamin C (COSTCO has it at a good price, along with the ZICAM), mixed in water with a few drops of Zand Echinacia and Goldenseal tincture.
These work, and if they don’t nip it in the bud, they lessen the severity, in my experience. At night I would take NyQuil because a good night’s sleep really helps, too.
Lauralli says
We take one teaspoon of good, raw honey and mix in 1/4 tsp of cinnamon. Eat it up! Do this 3 times a day. Helps every time!
Pam says
Organic echinnacia tea(spelled wrong). I drink at least one cup a day during the winter. If I feel I’m coming down with something I drink at leadt 3 cups a day.
Rosaleen says
I’ve been taking “Bee Complex” which has royal jelly, bee pollen, and other good “stuff” for well over a year. If I feel as if sonething is starting, I take Oscillococinium fir a couple of days. I went from having at least two nasty colds per year that needed antibiotics and 6 to 8 weeks to clear up to zero colds in nearly 2 years. Emergen-C Immune Defense also helps as does keeping sinuses flushed with a Neti pot. Oscillo you can buy at any drug store to get started, but consider buying a big box via Subscribe and Save to keep on hand. You probably have ginger in the refrigerator. Add some to hubby’s smoothies or make ginger tea. Ginger is a natural immune system booster.
