Word of the Day: Labyrinth Definition: A maze, a place full of intricate passageways Used in a sentence: It was fun to watch him try to find his way out of the labyrinth
Hello Thursday!
Have you put up your Christmas tree yet?
We gave away our fake tree a few years ago and I’m trying to figure out what to do about a tree this year. Last year we all went to a tree farm and cut one down {and paid a pretty penny for it too}. But The Girl won’t be home this year until right before Christmas so it almost seems like a waste to wait until 2 days before Christmas to go out and buy one and set it up {she has ALWAYS decorated the tree, it’s her thing}.
I noticed The Home Depot has living trees… Or maybe I should just make some sort of tree {although the HH would probably freak out at that}.
Any suggestions?
♥ Mavis

I go and liberate a small tree from the local pine plantations. 🙂 (Can I call it weeding??)
Perhaps a bit dodgy but its not uncommon around here!!
They will be knocked down as rubbish anyway as they just seed and grow among the larger trees that are harvested.
I don’t like plastic trees and no-one seems to sell ‘real’ ones here that I have seen.
This probably won’t help you in your decision making process.
But I will send you a photo of my liberated tree if I am not in gaol.
😀
PS I have seen a very cool arty kind of Christmas tree that was a dead branch painted white and decked with lights. Looked amazing.

What about buying a forest permit for $10 and cutting one down in the national forest? Kiddos are old enough to help and it would be a cool experience. On my bucket list, but can’t get any takers to go do it around here. Sigh.

I like that idea!!

We cut a tree from the forest every year and it’s something our kids always look forward to! We take hot chocolate and the sleds and make an afternoon of it.
It’s so much fun to find the “perfect” tree! Hope that works for you and your family! 🙂

Are there any tree rental companies up near you?
I have friends who ‘rent’ a live tree every year. It comes in a big pot and as long as you keep it alive until they come to pick it back up you don’t have to pay much.
Denise says
Have you seen the trees made out of books? You could totally do this! I just might try it, I have so many colorful books and I hate buying dead trees. I used to buy live trees but have run out of room in my yard.

Also, here in Snohomish County the Adopt a Stream foundation rents live trees that you return and then they plant them near streams.

Our tree is made of construction paper, blue sticky-tacked to the wall, decorated with homemade origami ornaments.
