Last week we met up with The Kiln Guy and The Chef {our old neighbors} for lunch at King Eider’s Pub in Damariscotta and the food was so good, I’m already looking forward to going back.
Our table was up on the top floor looking out to the street.
The Kiln Guy and The Chef had been there once before, but this was our first time and the pub was everything a pub should be, warm, cozy and very inviting.
And the food. Holy canolies people!
The first appetizer we ordered was the creamy brie and fresh fruit platter and it was lovely.
Next, the boys ordered skillet roasted oysters. I passed on that one but they all said they were delicious.
Steak and ale pie.
I ate the whole thing! I’m hoping the HH can re-create this dish for me this winter.
The haddock sandwich with fries. Aren’t those fries beautiful?
The HH and The Chef had the Ruben sandwiches which were loaded with sauerkraut and they both said it was hands down the best Ruben sandwich they had ever had {and I believe them!!}.
Good food, a good atmosphere and good company. What more could you ask for?
King Eider’s Pub in Damariscotta. It’s just another reason to visit the great state of Maine. 🙂
Seriously, put this place on your “must see” list if you’re headed to Maine. You won’t be disappointed.
Keep Calm and Eat On.

I hope the HH can re-create the steak and ale pie recipe too — looks like something my HH and I would enjoy. 🙂

If he comes up with a recipe for the steak recipe I’ll also create it at my own home lol 😉

It’s exactly what a pub should be. Good food the right atmosphere a kind of quirky layout with staircases and hidden nooks. Also if you’re lucky you can catch Mr Glenn chadbourne he’s a world famous artist for people like Stephen King and others this is one of his regular haunts

Steak and ale pie is so good. I love the look of the Reuben, too. It looks like they use real corned beef to make it still. Too many places have gone over to a, well I call it manufactured, corned beef or pastrami, and there’s a big taste and textural difference.

Tell me about it. I haven’t had a Reuben in a while, and this post made me want one, so I checked menus at all our local restaurants. The only one that offers a Reuben uses…turkey.
I guess I’ll have to make my own. Rachels are also acceptable (coleslaw instead of saurkraut).

The Hare and Hound is a wonderful pub in Landrum SC for those of you who visit the western Carolinas for vacation.
