Last Sunday we went to the LeMay Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington for our family day. The boys were in heaven–and I’ll even admit, The Girl and I thought it was pretty cool too.
The LeMay Car Museum is a 9 acre homage to automobiles–their history, the culture they’ve created, and the technology behind them. It’s a whole world out there–and believe me, there’s a lot of car enthusiasts in it.
In fact, the museum came to be when car collectors, Harold and Nancy LeMay, amassed the largest privately owned car collection in the world {at it’s height, over 3000 vehicles}.
They started the museum, originally the Harold E. LeMay Museum in hopes that their love of automobiles would benefit and educate the public.
The museum’s collections have grown/evolved over the years, due to donations, etc. They range from a 1906 Cadillac Model M all the way to a 1994 Flintmobile George Barris Kustom {which basically looks like a Fred Flinstone car}.
The museum also brings in special exhibits–the newest one, the VW exhibit opened on January 11th. My kids totally took advantage of the slug bug game. 😉
The museum even hosts a kids zone and race simulators as well. Plus there’s a gift shop that would make any car lover drool.
If you live in Washington or plan on visiting, you should totally take your family. It will give you a whole new appreciation for your transportation.

Oh, dear… you mean to tell me Karmann Ghias are now museum pieces? I guess I should have kept mine!

You get to go to all the fun stuff! I just read about the VW exhibit online and there you were. Hope it was great. Wish it wasn’t so far away.

Any car ever? My wish list is as follows:
-1966-1970 Ford Bronco totally stock
-1960 DeSoto Fireflite (not sure if I want it stock, or tricked out)
-Jeep CJ7 Renegade
I’ve already got one, now I just need the other two!
