Yesterday we discovered Le Petit Dep just off the Rue du Petit Champlain and I am in LOVE.
In fact I am in love with the whole little area we are staying in. All the shops, the hotels, the restaurants, are all decked out for Christmas and it looks like something out of a dream.
I told the HH I could stay here for an entire month and never get bored!
Just look at the window box!!! Practically every shop here has one and they are all so festive. I have to remember to take pictures of as many of them as I can.
And the inside of Le Petit Dep, the small cafe we found yesterday, is just as charming and cozy as well. Gaaa. Why didn’t we come here sooner?
London fogs are even on the menu here! Can you believe it? My all time favorite tea of all time.
So of course I had to order one. The Le Petit Dep version had honey and cardamom in it. And it was sooo good!
And they have cannelés here too. I always get one when I’m in Europe and they’re such a treat.
I told the HH I want to buy a mold and see if I could make them at home. Have you ever tried making them? I wonder how hard it would be. I’ve read that the best ones are made in copper molds… Anyone know for sure?
And a cromboloni. Have you ever had one of these before? OH MY GOODNESS!!! You need to try one of these pastries. According to the Google, a Cromboloni is a combination of croissants and bomboloni {which is an Italian donut}.
This one was filled with a delicious caramel sauce and it was pretty much the best pastry I’ve had in a looooong looooong time. I loved that. I love discovering new tasty treats.
I love it here in Québec City! I’m not sure what we’re going to do today, but we’re off to a good start!!! Anyone want to see the hotel where we’re staying? It’s pretty magical too.
Have a great day everyone, stay warm.

Wow! That trip looks amazing, as does the pastries! I’ve always heard that Quebec feels like the most European area of North America, and now I believe it! Have you been to Montreal too? Enjoy your trip!
Laura Z says
I meant, as do the pastries!

Sounds like you are enjoying the trip. You might want to have lunch or supper at a creperie while you’re visiting. They are probably a number of them in the core part of the city and the crepes are great, just like in France.
If you plan to go in winter again, try going when the Carnaval de Quebec is on, I believe sometime in February. Lots to do – Here’s a link: https://adventureawaits.ca/carnaval-de-quebec/
Another place you might like are 2 French islands, St Pierre and Miquelon, located off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. These islands are not part of Canada – they belong to France. Go in summer, it is a really different experience going to France so close to Canada & the US.

We have not been to Montreal yet. Maybe next time. 🙂

I love your coat!
I tried to zoom in on the tag but couldn’t read it. Could you share where it’s from? Nice alternative to a down jacket. It looks warm but has lots of style.

Merrill – Opti Warm duffel Coat. I bought it about 10-12? years ago. It’s super warm. I just looked and you can find them for sale used online.

So happy for you, Mavis!
Enjoy your time with the HH.
Question: weeks ago, you mentioned your favorite hot chocolate. Of course, I can’t find the post where you mention it. Can you tell me again – or anyone who reads this that remembers. Also, where can I find it online?
Thanks! Merry Christmas!
Mavis Butterfield says
Dutched Chocolate Café Sauce™ by Hollander Chocolate Co. Amazon sells it.

Of course we want to see the hotel! We want the whole experience! Enjoy!

Pastry chef in my family says yes best in a copper mold!
Glad you are enjoying your visit. It’s a magical time of the year there!

Thank you! I am going to check them out.

So pretty, thanks for sharing.
I couldn’t find an email address for you. I wanted to ask where you got your tea mug. It was a long time ago you wrote about where you got it from. I need a special mug for a Christmas present . Thanks, Janie
Mavis Butterfield says
My buddy Sue Tirrell makes my favotite mugs. Getting one is rather tricky though as she only really sells them in galleries or in person a few times a year. Here is a link to her website: https://www.suetirrellceramics.com/

Thank you

Copper molds are the best, BUT you will have to paint the interiors with beeswax every time you use them so that the pastry releases. if you don’t want to deal with that, get a silicone mold and you will still get wonderful results.

Looks like so much fun! Seeing the cromboloni made my mouth water. Yes, show the hotel. Love your trips, it is like we are along with you.

Yes, on the hotel as well! Pray, do tell! You always make it feel like we get to travel with you on your trips, and it’s so fun! The pastries sound incredible and delish! I too zoomed in on your coat before I had read any comments asking about it, and thought, wow, I love that coat and it looks so practical for travel with all the pockets, ha ha, then I saw that lots of us want to know what brand it is! Thanks for sharing your trip! You make me want to go make a London Fog now. Mmmmm

A fun place to visit for chocolate gifts. Quebec is magical.

Definitely need to see your hotel! Looks like you’re in a European city without the long flight. All of eastern Canada is on the bucket list so your travelogue is very tempting!!

So charming! What a great Christmas gift!

Yes, do share the hotel. You’re like a one-woman travel promoter. You should have your own TV show – HGTV are you listening? Thank you for the super close-ups of pastries, tea, shops, etc. It’s like travelling somewhere vicariously through you and HH. So glad you were able to visit at this magical time of year. C’est si bon!
