Yesterday, rather than celebrate Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving… we worked on projects. {The Girl will be coming up for the weekend and so we’ll have all our traditional festivities then.} Mainly, the HH worked on swapping out a few outlets and installing the new light fixture in the entryway.
Apparently it was supposed to be an easy installation, but the little metal box that fits into the ceiling {I have no idea what it’s called} hung down too low and the HH had to remove it and install a new thingamajig so the fixture would sit flush with the ceiling.
I just stayed in the other room next to the woodstove and worked on a rug hooking project while he figured it out and waited for my cue to help.
Holding lightbulbs is a serious job! ๐
And after an hour, the fixture was finally installed!!
Isn’t the new Moravian star light fixture a beauty!!! I LOVE the pattern it makes on the ceiling. Now all that’s left to do in the space is to remove the old tile and install the new slate floor, paint the trim, find some sort of bench, and the space will be completed.
Putting personal touches into a home… it’s one of my favorite things to do. ๐
Have a wonderful Friday everyone, enjoy your leftovers.

The new light fixture looks great! Now, you still have the yummy Thanksgiving dinner to look forward to having with your husband and daughter:)

That light is stunning – good choice!
I opted against my standard macaroni and cheese for dinner yesterday and tried your scalloped potatoes. They were fantastic!
Enjoy your special Thanksgiving with the Girl this weekend.

I literally laughed out loud when I read this post and saw the pics.
We moved in Dec of 2018, and then again in June of this year. So we have moved twice in short order, similar to you. I have followed all your home improvement DIYs with avid interest: my son and I have also done many DIY projects. We have replaced floors, windows, cupboards, light fixtures, done ceiling repair, indoor and outdoor painting, and likely others that I am forgetting.
But what I found so funny was the picture of the light fixture you installed! It is the same as two that we have in our current house, and my plan is to replace them eventually. I want more light on our upstairs stairway and landing, so they will get the boot. I never thought to try to sell them, but maybe they would sell on ebay (when I get around to replacing them).
Keep up the great work! I always enjoy reading your posts!
Mavis Butterfield says
I would totally put them on ebay if I were you! ๐

I grew up In Winston-Salem where Moravians settled and we still have congregations. The Moravian star hangs outside in our doorways for Advent. Christmas is one of the biggest holidays for our town but this year, with COVID, everything will be done virtually. You may want to google it and enjoy the candle tea online. Your star is beautiful!
Lynn from NC Outer Banks says
Patti, another North Carolinian here. I also had a Moravian star on our porch for many, many years. I always loved participating in Love feasts as well. I just looked at the website and may want to join the tea online this year as well. Thank you for mentioning it! And Mavis, I think your light fixture is lovely as well.

Not relevant to your beautiful light fixture which I love, but I wanted to let you know that last Saturday, your kindness and generosity made someone I love very, very happy! A year ago (or was it two?) you har a give away of cool things that you found on ETSY. I was the lucky recipient of a necklace from Artful Accents. It has a disc on it that says “dancer” and a separate tiny silver heart. I kept it all that time to give to my granddaughter, an aspiring dancer, on her 18th birthday. She loves, loves, loves it—put it on right away and says that she will never take it off. THANK YOU!!!

I think it was last year. I’m so glad she enjoyed the necklace. ๐

Itโs called a junction box. We ironically hung a new light fixture Wednesday and we werenโt planning on it. Ours was a pool table light fixture, problem was the table was already there and it was tiring leaning over the table to install.
Linda Practical Parsimony says
I like that fixture, but does it hold only a 40 watt bulb? I would put that in the dining room, but that is not enough light. Maybe I can find something like it. I think it is called a junction box.

Ahhhj! Iโve always wanted a Moravian star light fixture!!! My grandpa had one in his very old house when I was a kid and i fell in love. Good for you!
