Yesterday, after baking about 10 dozen cookies and before the big storm hit {rain and winds up to 50+mph} The Girl headed home. It was a good visit, and I don’t think we could have squeezed another thing in even if we had tried.
We didn’t get to finish the jammie pants we started {hopefully I’ll finish them this week}, but we did have a boatload of fun hanging out and driving around Mid Coast Maine while she was here.
Have you ever been to the village of Port Clyde? No? Well if you ever come to Maine, you might want to put it on your list of places to see. Especially during the summer months when the art galleries and other shops that are scattered about the tiny town are open.
Winter time is my favorite though because all the tourists have gone home and the only people left in town are the year rounders. It’s so quiet, and peaceful and one of my favorite spots in Maine.
But my favorite place to visit when I’m in Port Clyde is the Marshall Point Lighthouse. Not only are the views amazing, but climbing around on the rocks is pretty fun too.
Bean Boots. A Maine staple.
And then of course there’s the house that you drive by on your way to the lighthouse with the insanely AWESOME garden. Complete with raised garden beds {I LOVE the stone borders} and glass greenhouse.
If we get another glass greenhouse again, I want one just like the people by the lighthouse have. Seriously, isn’t it gorgeous? There isn’t a fence around the veg patch though {well, not that I could spot from the road} so I’m not sure how they keep the critters out. But still, it makes me swoon every time I drive by it.
Here we are December 1st. And I’m already thinking about next year’s garden. š It’s hard to imagine snow will be on the ground soon, and I won’t be able to get a shovel in the ground until late April. But still it’s never too early to start dreaming, right?
Wishing you all the best on this wet and blustery Tuesday morning,
~Mavis

I love that greenhouse and garden beds!! We all need one of those! Thanks for sharing all these beautiful pictures. Maine is very high on my travel to-do list, so these pictures help tide me over until I can make it a reality.

My mom lived in the apartment above the gift shop of the old lighthouse keepers house at Marshal Point until a few years ago when she moved to Hope. Every day you would see guys running up to the light house while someone filmed them and yelled, “run Forest, run!”

Beautiful, beautiful Maine. And lovely to hear you had such a good visit with The Girl.
I remember Maine from when I was a child and my parents and I lived on the East coast of Canada. I haven’t been back in decades, but boy do your pictures make me want to go back again!

I’m still thinking about this year’s garden. I strolled outside today and picked an armful of bell peppers. I bet I could have left my tomatoes in the ground until now, which is just insane.

Oh, Mavis! I’ve so wanted (for years) to move to mid coastal Maine. Is it terribly expensive? We have a combine SS income of about $72k a year. Could we afford it? So thankful for any info you can reply. I’ve loved your blog for years, and was so excited when you moved to Maine from the west coast. Your pictures of beautiful mid coastal Maine has inspired me to delve deeper into the possibility of making the move.

Yes! You can move here š

I have such wonderful memories of Port Clyde, the little general store at the dock included. Five generations (now including my grandchildren) have spent some summer time in Port Clyde. And, it is the place to board the Laura B to my favorite place in the universe—Monhegan Island, 10 miles at sea, but a world away. I hope you check it out sometime at least for a day trip. You would love it!
