A new house has been built in our neighborhood and yesterday the landscapers showed up with 3 truckloads of flowers, trees and shrubs.
Hot diggety, I wonder if they will be throwing away all those black pots?
I went to investigate.
I asked the man in charge if he was planning on throwing away the pots and if he was, could I please have 6 of the larger ones. His eyes lit up.
“Ya Ya, I bring pots in my truck. You no carry. I bring tomorrow. Ya Ya. Tomorrow I bring you pots.”
I smiled back at him, said thanks, and skipped home with a big fat juicy grin on my face. Wahooo! Free pots! Lucky me!
5 Minutes ago the doorbell rang, I heard a truck pull away and this is what I found.
Apparently “May I have the 6 large black pots” translated to “May I have all your black pots” in Japanese.
Holy Crap.
1. How am I going to hide all these before the Handsome Husband gets home?
2. What on earth am I going to do with all these pots? I only needed 6!
Eeeek!

Tee-hee-hee.

Depending on what you’re planting, you could use some of the smaller ones to displace dirt in the larger pots.

LOL, Too funny! If I lived in the Seattle area I would have taken some off your hands.

Ask and you shall recieve!:) lol
Jules says
Sell them on craigslist!

Use what you need and take the rest to Home Depot’s recycling program! LOL
You are definitely one resourceful and very lucky lady. 🙂

Wash the smaller ones up nicely. Replant a small flowering type bush in them or herbs. Wrap a springy/summery ribbon around them and viola! Gifts! Gifts for mother’s day, for kids teacher, for hostess gifts, etc…
Misty says
That is a great idea.
Susan says
Hide them behind the free pallets that HH dragged home. 🙂

I’ve received about $200 of free sod that was going to the dump, just by asking if we could haul it out for them. Great stuff, too!

Nice!!!

Post them on freecycle or the free part of craigslist! I’m sure someone else is in search of some or all of them 🙂

This is one great score I collect pots from whenever I can but you hit the jack pot here!!
I wish I could get my hands on some of those big ones for trees they would be great for tomatoes since I rent most of my “garden” is in pots.
Michelle says
I was thinking the same thing about hiding them from the husband! Chris would have my head! lol

Share the love! lol You could put plant starts in them and sell them or just give away as a random act of kindness. Think of all the food you could pass along!
Melissa says
Even better instead of leaving flowers on people’s door steps May Day you could leave a veggie plant! lol ;o)

Too funny! If I was near, I’d take some too for our church garden. So, that’s my idea – see if a local church could use them.

I also had to find you after reading mondays with mavis to see your 2000 pounds . I saw what you grew last year and I thought she must live in a warmer place than me. but no we are almost neighbors to each other . I went all out starting my seeds I think they are doing great. but my dh is just one step ahead of me and keeps buying the starts already started from Farm fresh a local farm, now I am almost out of room to plant mine. I may have to use them for Mayday as Melissa posted about. I also orderd the book 64$ tomato from the library. Happy growing!!!! will it be sunny 4 weekends in a row!!!
Mavis says
Hi Deb, I seriously hope we get a nice long warm stretch here. I’m ready for a heatwave! 🙂 I really liked the $64 Tomato. Have you read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle? I loved that one too.
