One of my goals for this year is to discover 12 {new to me} Maine businesses and tell you about them on the blog. With so many makers and unique small businesses here in Maine, I’d love to be able to give them a little shout out and share them with you as I come across them this year.
*****
::: THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED :::
Back in February I visited with Maine Artist Susan Horowitz in her Harpswell, Maine studio and while there, picked up a couple of her gorgeous Maine Double Dip Dinghy’s.
I like to fill my dinghy with pickety bits and hummus or artichoke dip but its also been fun to fill it with strawberries and melted chocolate.
Made by hand one at a time in the great state of Maine, this little double dip dinghy comes with a set of “oars” and would be perfect to fill with treats to set out for your guests on the patio or kitchen table this summer.
And of course if you’re going to have a boat, you’ll need to learn some sea shanties too so I am including the Keep Hauling CD from the movie Fisherman’s Friend. {Have you seen the movie? I loved it.}
And of course what would a dinghy and sea shanties be without the smell of the sea? So I am also including a Soothing Sea candle from DW Home. {I love their candles! Their vanilla bean is my all time favorite!}
A little bit of Maine from me to you. Sounds like the perfect giveaway, don’t you think?
One Lucky Person will win the following:
- Double Dip Dinghy made by Susan Horowitz in Harpswell, Maine
- Fisherman’s Friend Soundtrack
- DW Home Soothing Sea Candle
- Dove Milk Chocolate
All you have to do to enter this giveaway is leave a comment below and answer this one question: Do you collect anything, and if so, what?
That’s it, that’s all you’ve got to do. Just answer that one question. Pretty complicated, right? 😉
Rules
Comment must be left on the blog to count as an entry. 1 entry per person/ip address. If you cheat, you will totally be disqualified. {Comments may take an hour or two to be cleared, so please be patient}.
This giveaway ends Sunday, May 23rd @8 pm EST and the winner will be announced on Monday, May 24th. You will be notified via email and have 48 hours to claim your prize. If you do not claim your prize within 48 hours, the prize will be forfeited.

I used to have, but had to pass onto my daughter when she got married a large set of green depression glass , it was made by her great- grandfather. The other brother had made a matching set but in pink. Since they were made as wedding gifts to their brides the family tradition said that it had to be passed on to the oldest child after their marriage. I only have 2 green glass candle holders that I had bought myself to go with the set.

I don’t formally ‘collect’ anything (except dust, I think I collect that…) however books seem to find me and my side table, and plants follow me home. Friends, those are something I am learning to collect and keep, quite valuable I have found. recipes, of course, but that is simply a compulsion. Ideas, poems, concepts – all of which I don’t manage to hold on to with much skill, so they end up scattered and uneasy and a bit twisted due to poor retention … amusing to me, in their bizarre new forms, and often unrecognizable to others. I certainly don’t collect nouns – I lose those darn things, constantly….

I collect mittens made by residents in Alaska’s remotest villages. They are made of animal skins that people trap as part of living a subsistence lifestyle, and are often intricately beaded. Alaska is huge and certain animals live in only certain parts of the state, so you won’t, for example, find polar bear mittens in the southern, western or eastern parts of the state, only at the very northern parts. While some people oppose using animal fur, the indigenous people have been respectfully harvesting them for years, eating the flesh and making items from the fur, bones, cartilage and so on.
