bits and bobs: A random assortment of things; small remaining pieces and things
For the past 10 years towns in France and Belgium have been giving away FREE chickens to combat food waste…. And not surprisingly, it’s been a huge success. You can read all about it in this BBC article.
If your local town was giving away free chickens would you raise a few?
I listened to Be Ready When The Luck Happens by Ina Garten and LOVED it!!
“Do what you love, if you love it, you’ll be really good at it” – Jeffrey Garten. I listened to this book twice and really liked hearing about their work/life balance. I liked that they had their own interests and do their own thing and are still able to be “together”.
And I thought the part about them putting pretty much everything they owned on the curb {for others to glean} when they were ready to move on to the next place was very, very relatable. It’s all just stuff. You can always find more stuff.
I listened to a Conan O’Brien podcast the other day and he has this philosophy {a non attachment to “things”} too. Some people get it. And some people don’t.
I don’t know why, but I find the whole topic interesting.
Calling all cleaning experts. Did you see the article on NPR about the things people forget to clean the most? I can honestly say that I have never {nor will probably ever} do 4 out of 5 of them.
And last but not least… Someone has FINALLY come up with a wearable blanket skirt and I love it. I would totally wear it. It even comes with a little pocket for snacks!!!
I’ve been wearing blankets wrapped about my waist for years… It’s nice to know I wasn’t the only one who did this.
That’s it. That’s all I’ve got for today.
Here’s to an awesome weekend everyone. Word on the street is we’re supposed to get 4-5 inches of snow this weekend {how can that be!?}.
Stay awesome,
~Mavis

No dishwasher; no air conditioner, so no worries there. I do clean fridge coils, drains & replace stove fan filters. Maybe I need to get a life? My niece doesn’t call me Martha Stewart for nothing! A spring snow storm is into day 2 here in NE Alberta. It wouldn’t be spring without one.

No, I would not want free chickens.
Buying the chickens is the least expensive part of owning them. I hope those towns in France/Belgium are vetting that the homeowners have a coop, run, bedding, chicken feed, and solid knowledge on how to keep those “free” birds. Otherwise, that practice is about as smart as handing out free puppies to toddlers at grocery stores.
The blanket skirt is fascinating. Bulky, unattractive, and more restrictive than the heavy sweatpants underneath. I long to make my butt/thighs to look 50lbs heavier…
But then, I’m not the target audience. In cold weather, my upper body needs extra warmth far more than my lower.

I would love to be able to have a few chickens. Where I live, the township has an ordinance that you must have 10 or more acres in order to have chickens.

I think people who can just start over multiple times are financially secure. I live under the poverty level and I would never be able to do that. I am fascinated by your multiple moves to multiple houses. It’s a lifestyle that most people just dream about. I love your blog and enjoy a peek into your life. Thanks for sharing.

Have you seen the winter skirts? They look like snow pant material but in skirt style. There are some nice full zip options so no shoe removal required.

Both my daughter and I have NorSari skirts. Ours are made out of wool. They really keep your legs warm without a lot of bulk. I love mine.
