I like to keep things classy around here, so tonight I’m giving away yet another case of Angel Soft Toilet Paper. If you don’t want to enter because you don’t use toilet paper in your neck of the woods, I totally get it, but hey, you could always pass it along to a neighbor or something, or even barter with it.  I hear a lot of people are using toilet paper these days. 😉

Just answer that one question and you’re entered to win. Life’s pretty complicated sometimes, so I like to keep things simple around here.

    The best thing that’s happened to me all year is just getting to watch my grandbaby grow. She’s 3 now and I’m fortunate enough to have her and her mom living with me here on the family farm.

    Learning some new skills from some of the self reliant blogs I read on internet….your blog has helped as well with the bartering aspect I love to barter and do it quite often…but I wont barter the toilet paper I put it towards my stock pile im trying to obtain… 🙂

    The BEST thing that has happened this year for me is that I still have my mother around as the year ends. I’m getting “up there” myself and count myself blessed to have both adult children and a parent left in my life. The second best thing, at the risk of sounding like a kiss-up, might be finding this site!

    Oh, gosh…there are tons of great things that happened this year! One of my most memorable moments was my son’s delight in harvesting his produce from his own garden! He was so excited to show everyone his mini garden (he’s five…so we gave him a small chunk to plant as he saw fit) and pick his vegetables. I think his small plot grew better produce than the rest of our garden!

    We just had our biggest snow of the year and got to play in almost a foot of it! So much fun since we hardly ever get snow.

    I have got to say the best thing that happened to me this year is not actually something that happened to me, but that the doctors saved my sisters life by not trusting a CT scan but their instincts and did emergency surgery and it saved her life! She is still in ICU and on a ventilator but she is still with us.

    Hmm…in some ways it has been a very difficult year, including financially. But at the same time, there have been many wonderful blessings. We had an unexpected financial gift almost 3 months ago now which was huge to us. Also, I got to go to a retreat which was life-changing in many ways for me. Those two are pretty much a tie. 🙂

    I got to take my sister on a vacation, first one in 35 years. We spent a wonderful week at the beach. She has cared for her husband around the clock turning him every two hours. Some family members stepped in to give her a much needed break. Oh, what joy to watch her enjoy her self….just like the kid in all of us.

    Well its hard to pick one thing as the best thing. My family is healthy and getting ready to get all together again for Christmas. Christmas is my favorite holiday and has always been magical for me. I would have to say one of the most fun and satisfying things has been to plant tons and tons of flowers in our yard this year. They were so beautiful and I am really excited about seeing them come back next year even more beautiful!

    the best thing that happened to me this year, is the ability to go back to church. my family has not wanted to go, so i asked the visiting minister about anyone who would be willing to give me a ride and her parents now take me to service and to bible study. i have met some good people and have the ability to go outside the house a few times a week. 🙂

    The best thing that happened this year was also the worst. Funny how life has plans like that for us! I lost my dad in June to ALS, that was the worst. In his last days I came to know his brothers and sisters so much closer, and that has been the best 🙂 I am grateful for them , my sister, husband and son. All of us rallying together throug our loss has been amazing 🙂

    The best thing that happened all year was the birth of my youngest son. I found out I was pregnant on New Year’s and it was a long pregnancy through triple-digit summer weather. He arrived healthy and big. He is a wonderful baby and barely cries. Couldn’t ask for more than that!

    The best thing that happened to me this year was my husband surprising me with a puppy after we lost both of our dogs and our cat, all in a four month period last winter. I was so despondent, but he somehow knew giving me a reason to have to get out of bed and back into life was the perfect medicine. I think my puppy Persie saved my life!

    My Dad turned 90 this year and is still healthy and happy and fun to do stuff with. And two different visits from old friends I have not seen in a LONG time – one for 30+ years and the other for more than 10 years! 🙂

    We bought a house! We’ve lived in the same apt. for over 14 years. Now the kids have their own bedrooms. I don’t have to go to the laundromat to do laundry. We have a dishwasher. There is room for my teenage daughter to host study groups. Both kids have had kids over for sleepovers. My son has a yard to run around in and is enjoying playing with neighborhood friends. It’s been a life-changing and memorable year. We’re so grateful.

    The best thing that happened to me this year was that I got married! We took the immediate sides of both of our families to a beautiful house in western Maine . We went white water rafting, canoeing, hiking, and even saw a black bear. It was a really fun way to unite two families into one.

    This is particularly special because I was a widow and didn’t think I would find someone to love again. Life couldn’t be better! Well, only with winning some TP. Love your blog! Read it everyday.

    The best thing that happened this year was my 88 year old mother survived two very serious hospitalizations where she was not expected to live. With that came the friendship and caring of so many wonderful healthcare workers who rather than simply doing a job, gave her the love and will to live. One nurse in particular stands out and has befriended her, visits her on his days off and shares his own family with her on the weekends when he’s not working. Nothing could be better… ever!

    The best thing that has happened to me this year is that my 17 year old daughter has successfully made it through her spinal fusion surgery. She had to have surgery in June to correct severe scoliosis. She now has a 17 3/4 inch scar down her back and two titanium rods and screws the length of her spine. She had complications and was hospitalized for most of July. We got through that and now she is doing very well. I’m so glad that that is over, and so thankful that she is recovering!

    Unfortunately, my husband developed a chronic debilitating illness, but on the positive side, this has strengthened our 18-year marriage to rock solid. My husband, my 2 boys, and myself, have bonded throughout this time like never before. A blessing in disguise!

    God has been so good all year log – it’s hard to pick just one thing, but one really big blessing is that my husband just recently was officially hired! It was 3 1/2 years of unemployment, under-employment, two jobs, working from home, and now finally he has his taxes removed from his paychecks, 40 hours a week at an office, and vacation time to boot!

    Going to Alaska to visit both my kids at once — we cooked up a storm, went for walks in the snow and had a lot of “remember when” conversations.

    The best thing that happened to this year is what happens to me every morning for the last 6 years. I wake up to the best fella a girl could ever be lucky enough to be married too!

    We learned we will have three little grand-daughters within twelve months as each of our three children has had or will have a little girl. 🙂

    Visiting my children in San Francisco and having my little grandaughter take her first steps when she was so happy to see me!

    There have been many blessings to be thankful for this past year, but I think the greatest of these was being able to visit our families back east. We have no family here in the southwest and it is very expensive to get the 5 of us back to see our family in CT and IL. However, this past summer we were finally able to get back to see most of them, many of whom we haven’t seen in several years. This past summer I actually finally saw my cousin whom I hadn’t seen in over 30 years! We had a great time catching up!

    So many things. But I met two brothers and a sister I didn’t know I had growing up and lots of other relatives this summer.
