    Managed to swing a few extra days off to ski, read, knit, and of course cook with all who happen to come over. Our house is notoriously mellow around the hokidays.

      Since this is my daughters last Christmas before she leaves for college, we have been taking lots of pictures of the zany things that happen, such as carrots flying from the Thanksgiving Table, the dogs staring at the Christmas tree, wrapping presents, and baking sweets. Anything to slow down time and capture the memories in a still photo.

    We are planning a staycation. Everyone if off for almost 2 weeks. We going to go to local historical site, view the holiday displays, paint 2 rooms, and have a chili cook off.

      I was a SAHM for 14 years, and I never worked harder, so I hear what you’re saying. I also homeschooled my kids when they got to school age which added even more. I wouldn’t have traded it, even though the insults would certainly come my way for “not working.” The funny thing was that when a school break would come around, I looked forward to just having fun with my kids, while some of the other parents dreaded having to keep their kids busy. I think it is wonderful that you are spending this time with your little one!

    I started a tradition when my kids were very young to kick off their break with Christmas Bingo on Christmas Eve, complete with prizes. They are 18 and 21 now, but we will still play. Then it’s always, food, family, movies, music and good ol’ relaxing!

    My husband’s new company he works for shuts down for 2 weeks over Christmas. He intends on getting our new kitchen installed in that first week. Hopefully this will happen!! Me and my kids will probably have to make ourselves scarce for a bit.( We actually will probably want to!!) It all will come together and we have invited all the Strays (No I’m not talking cats, although, we are fostering 3 kittens that were born on our porch, feeding and trying to trap, nueter/spay and release, the many that live around our home, all in the next 2 weeks) Well, The strays are the wonderful people looking for a place to go. We have invited several people, who have no family, and have no where to be, to enjoy Christmas day with us. That second week is going to be enjoyed by all of us, relaxing and having fun with each other and visiting family members and celebrating my five years, cancer free!! Should be magical! Feeling blessed!!

    we plan on making glow in the dark tree ornaments, tons of cookies, fudge, and making home made gifts. we have very little money, so everything is home made. i am making rice bags for bed warmers (its cold up here). i bought the grandkids cheap gifts at the christmas tree store clearance bin (17 cents each!) and markers and crayons at walmart during back to school sales. we are using craft paper to wrap gifts and using recycled crafts to keep the little ones busy. 🙂 hope you have a great christmas!

    After catching up on some cleaning, I expect to be sewing up a storm. I have some backpacking gear to make for myself, and baby clothes to make for my neice overseas and a local gal who can use some help clothing her twins. There are some amazing free patterns on line and ideas for repurposing T-shirts, including for making diapers.

    Christmas is my favorite time of year! I start by putting the tree up with my hubby and then a couple of weeks before Christmas a friend and I always bake cookies and make fudge to give away as presents.     Being retired, my husband and I get to hang out together every day! However, the rest of our families and friends are still going to school or working full time jobs. So we are going to use this time to reconnect with as many of them as we can while they are off! Blessed holidays!!!

      I love this idea! When we first moved to the Midwest a family included us in their get-together, and I still tear up thinking of their kindness. Right now we live very out-of-the-way in a little bitty house, but this is definitely one of the things I want to do when we move elsewhere.

    Let’s see . . . first, I shall forget all memories of the semester behind me (student grades, begone!). Then, I shall finish sewing the blankets and pajamas I have promised (and thank my lucky stars that my son decided that a bought-from-store fort is better than a fort-made-by-mom, as I seriously don’t know HOW that would have turned out). The day itself we will spend at our house with our extended family: 16 people and counting. And before and during and after, I will be reading a LOT and watching TV a LOT and surfing the web a LOT and running on trails, as I do when not busy teaching. Can’t wait! Oh, and I will be trolling the Web for recipes and advice from Mavis!

    I plan on staying a few extra days at my parents farm learning a few skills. This will shock everyone in the family. Growing up the neighbors didn’t know there were two children in our family because I was always locked away in my room reading. My personal goals are
    1) kill something, learn to dress it, cook it, and eat it- this will probably be a wild hog or a deer
    2) learn to catch and clean fish- then learn to cook it
    3) learn to chop and split firewood
    4) learn to start a fire in the fireplace
    5) CAN SOMETHING! I am getting a pressure canner for Christmas from my parents
    A few ideas I have for the family are
    1) learning how to use the magnesium fire starters I am giving as stocking stuffers
    2) camp (even if it’s in our yard) using only the supplies in our emergency bags
    3) go a day without electricity- this should give the kids time to enjoy the board games and books they are getting and get off the X-Box

    We plan on spending the Holidays together .. we will celebrate the 5 days between Winter Solstice and Christmas 12/21-12/25 eating together( from our canned summer ) cooking together, Special Gluten free food since my daughter is sick and cannot eat flour cookies) sharing those silly holiday movies like the Grinch and charlie brown. We share a small gift each night and love and enjoy each others company. each gift has to be small, and purchased for the persons needs.. not just big ticket items.. we have limited the price to $10 or less…

    This is the first year in a long time that I’ve saved up enough vacation to actually have a Christmas break. I am really excited to stay in my pj’s all day, hang out on the couch with my cat in my lap reading and drinking tea, bake a few goodies, and work on planning for next year’s growing season!

    I plan to travel to St. Louis to visit my brother and his wife. We will spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day together.     I’m a teacher of Middle School and a mom of a 5 year old boy, so on my break I plan on spending lots of time with my little guy (probably doing crafts, playing games, and putting together a puzzle or two), catching up my little guy’s scrapbook, visiting my family who lives a couple of hours away, and of course watching a few sappy movies and reading a good book or two!

    I only get one day off for Christmas so will be doing baking and wrapping before then but did enjoy 4 whole days in a roww off for Thanksgiving and spent as much time in bed as possible! Read the paper, drank coffee, played with the cat and took naps. Pure bliss!

    Well, were a military family spending Christmas in Missouri 🙂 I think the biggest plan we have for the holidays is hanging out with each other. We won’t be getting to visit family this year so stay-cation is the best way to go. We’re generally just happy to spend Christmas break together, hanging with the kids, dog walking, and neighborly fun. Of course cooking (hubby), baking (me and the kids), and lots of movies! Best was to go for sure 🙂

    This is my husband’s and I first Christmas as a married couple. We don’t ‘technically’ have a Christmas vacation, but we both managed to get a couple of days off to head to the Sunriver Resort near Bend, OR for a quick winter getaway. Can’t wait!

    I have Christma Eve at my house with family and friends. I serve an easy buffet dinner and then we all go to church where one of my daughter’s and I play in the handbell choir. I love the music and candlelight at the Christmas Eve service.
    Christmas Day is for lazing in jammies, watching Christmas movies and eating too much fruitcake.

    Thanks Mavis for a fun year of new ideas and a chance to visit with you daily. (I don’t know how you do it, the garden gig and then a blog on top of it). I plan on spending the holidays preparing goodies for all my family and then celebrating on the 21st with as many of them as can make it. Since we use wood heat, a nice comforter would be a wonderful way to snuggle up every evening and then not want to get out of bed in the morning.

    I have 2 weeks off for Christmas break, We are planning a Christmas party/craft party for the children with friends. Christmas day we usually stay home and have our own family gathering, then dinner. The next few days usually cleaning up and playing with the new gifts.
