Holy cow, what a difference 10 weeks makes!
Here I am with Orlando {Chino the Handyman’s right hand man} about half way through the remodel.
For the most part, I liked the original u-shape of the kitchen. But that was about it. The kitchen cabinets, blue counter tops, 1990’s space sucking soffet above the cabinets and the warped yellow wood floor were all pulled out. We were able to recycle/donate all the cabinets, sink, and all the hardware, so that part was nice.
Since all the appliances were in working order {although not ones we would have chosen if given the choice} we decided to keep them. Because really, they looked fine and spending a bunch of money for flashy new appliances wouldn’t have increased the value of the kitchen {in my mind} significantly. So why bother.
Thanks to Chino and his crew, we were able to turn the outdated kitchen from drab to fab with some new kitchen cabinets, counter tops, a funky back-splash, new flooring, an updated pantry and some crown molding.
I don’t know about you, but I think it turned out great.
It’s light, bright and has a CLEAN look about it. Totally worth it in my book.

It looks amazing, Mavis!! We have those over the cabinet soffets too. I have been thinking to remove those whenever we get around to redoing our kitchen. Our cabinets are oak, like yours, since our home was built in 1990, and they are structurally in good shape, but could use some visual TLC, and some hardware. They never came with hardware, as they were designed to not truly need it, but as we’ve learned, that comes with a price. Fingernails and soft-ish oak wood = nicks in the wood. Lesson learned on our part.
What material is your floor? We have oak flooring in our kitchen and it shows when things are dropped.

mavis I LOVE this remodel! We would like to do the same and live in the same area–can you recommend your contractor?

It looks fabulous, Mavis! Plus, I totally love the two crockpots. I need to get another. π
Our kitchen is in need of some help, and while we cannot afford all you did, this has motivated me to really look at ours and figure out what I CAN do. If nothing else, I can paint! π

Paint the the cheapest upgrade on the planet. Go for it! π

Do you like your stovetop in front of the window? Does the window fog up every time you use the stove?
Mavis Butterfield says
Ohh great question! No, the window does not fog up and I LOVE having the window there. If I am cooking bacon or fish I can open the window and the odor goes bye bye. Much better than any fan could do.
