Yesterday The Girl and I finally checked the last thing off my 2015 goals list. A marathon. We started around 7:15 am in the dark and let me tell you Bob, it was crazy cold.
Around mile 6 it started to rain. Which, if you were wearing a cotton jacket, was kind of lame, but we pressed on.
We both received Starbucks gift cards for Christmas so we made sure to tuck those into our pockets {as well as our gift cards to Panera} just in case we needed a few hot drinks and nourishment along the way. We made it 9 miles before our first pit stop.
It was pouring outside when we stopped for hot cocoa at the Starbucks inside of Albertsons so we decided to walk the next mile around Albertsons scooping up free samples of cheese and cookies from the bakery and deli.
After a few laps the cashiers up front were starting to give us some odd looks {like maybe we were looters} so we left and headed to Target. ๐
We were both pretty shocked to find Target pretty empty. I guess maybe all the crazies were there the day after Christmas loading up on 50% off wrapping paper and everyone else knew all the good stuff would be gone by the 27th so they just stayed home.
Who knows…
We left Target once we hit mile 13 and headed to Costco.
Showing up at Costco around 11 am was very strategic on our part. Why? Because Costco starts serving FREE SAMPLES at 11 am, that’s why. Chicken nuggets, tamales, cheese, taquitos, sausage, oatmeal bars, and madeline cookies. You know, all the typical things you find at a marathon fuel station.ย Looking back, I think we probably could have walked the entire marathon in Costco and nobody would have noticed.
After Costco we walked a mile or so inside The Home Depot before finally heading back out into the rain and on to our final destination… PANERA.
When we arrived at Panera we were at 26.1 miles. So the last .10 mile was spent walking back and forth in front of the cash register as our order was rung up.
I’m pretty sure the lady behind the counter thought we were total psychos, {or had to wee, or were just very impatient} but we did it baby!!!
Goals. They are pretty RAD. You should set some.

You two are rock stars. That’s my kind of marathon! (Not that I’ve done one, but this certainly would be the way to go.)
Kara says
How long did it take you? Just curious ๐
Mavis Butterfield says
A little over 7:30. Which, considering we walked {and not at top speed of course in the stores} I think we did pretty good.
Kara says
That’s terrific!

You crack me up! That’s my kind of marathon ๐

Good going on the personal marathon! Why pay race entry fees when you can just walk on your own ๐ I’ve just found your blog recently and want to thank you for all the great tips–especially the Kindle books. I appreciate all your hard work!

Inspiring! I’ve always been afraid of “going the distance,” but the way you did it is totally up my alley. I need to find a crazy friend to do this with me in 2016.

That’s great Ms Mavis!! I love the fact you were able to stop for hot choc, snack at Costco, and still grab lunch….all while accomplishing your goal! Congrats to you and the Girl-you both deserve a pat on the back. ๐
