It’s been a busy week in the garden. The fence guys will be here tomorrow to set posts and a few days after that our back yard garden should be up and running. In the meantime, The Girl and I have been finishing up a few small projects. 
We dug up the front tulip bed {to make way for calla lilies} and transplanted them to the side yard. We also moved the arborvitae hedges a few feet as the fence will be built behind them. I may have also planted an Italian plum tree. Although I cannot confirm nor deny that as it would have required approval from the HOA.
My secret potato patch is now safety hidden behind the trees. 
Our Meyer lemon tree is giving birth to lemon babies!!! I wonder how many we’ll end up with.
After successfully drilling holes in the bottom of the stock tanks we planted them with heirloom tomato plants. We also added a few twisty sticks to the one that sits outside the kitchen window. I’ll plant a few pole bean to climb up them later this week. I might also add a few cucumber plants to dangle down the side of the container as well. We’ll see.
The back patio is looking less like a discount nursery and more like a patio with every plant that finds a new home in the garden.

We had Tagro delivered on Friday so I spruced up the beds and planted a few more veggies. Right now we have strawberries, cabbage, lettuce, Swiss chard and three rows of beets planted in front of the boxwood hedges.
I might need to add a few more flamingos. 😉
I’m hoping we’ll be able to get the remaining 2 yards of Tagro out of the driveway today so I don’t get a letter from the HOA. {I wonder what an acceptable time frame for shoveling 10 yards of soil out of your driveway is anyway.} Hmm.
Just a few more days until I get to install our garden beds and garden in the privacy of my own backyard. Wahooooo! To say I am excited would be the biggest understatement of the year.

Here in Kingman AZ, my cool weather crops have all gone to seed so I’m doing seed saving on deCiccio broccoli, bok choy, red salad bowl, iceberg and romaine lettuce, Bloomsdale long standing and giant noble spinach, purple top white globe turnips, onions, garlic and red Russian kale.
Warm weather crops are cruising now. Mortgage Lifter tomatoes, Sweet Banana and California Wonder Peppers, Patty Pan, Yellow straight neck and black beauty squash, burpless cucumber, Black Mountain watermelon and Charantais cantaloupe. Golden Wax beans are setting fruit now too.
The only crop failure I had this past winter was my snap peas didn’t like being in a hoop house, caught powdery mildew and died. So next fall they don’t go in the hoop house. I’ll just cover them when it goes below freezing.
For the first time in seven years it looks like our nectarines are going to make it and give us a bumper crop. Our peaches always do. The Golden Dorsett and Anna Apple trees we planted two years ago are going to give us some fruit–would have been a great crop but high winds “thinned” them too much. Our plums got thinned by the wind too but we’ll still get more than we can eat–so get the canning supplies ready.

Looks great! I love the idea to use the twisty sticks…and the sneaky ninja potatoes !! We moved to Wyoming recently. We’re in a rental for now and I haven’t planted a thing. It’s driving me crazy!

The garden bed with all the cabbage and ‘stuff’ looks so beautiful!
I’d have to go back a few posts to see, but is that bed out the back and will be fenced in? I was wondering what pests besides the HOA you have to contend with. I fence my main garden plot off from possums (they are cute but not when eating my vegetables) and the occasional rabbits.
Everything is looking gorgeous and I am looking forward to seeing the fence – you’ll be in full flight then!
OK – I am off to clear out my hothouse (sob – there ends another season)

Like Raymond, I’m harvesting a lot of what I planted back in February/early March. I turned out about 50 pounds of potatoes this weekend. We do 2 crops a year so we try and keep them small enough that we don’t lose any. Also picked our peas – got about 3 servings from 8 plants. We’d not done peas before and didn’t want to plant a ton of them to watch them fail. So next spring we know what to do to get a bumper crop. I’ve already started harvesting green beans (pole and bush) and should be pulling corn in the next week to 10 days. Tomatoes and peppers are looking good and the melons and cucumbers are flowering like crazy. I figure in about 20-25 days, I’ll be knee deep in tomatoes and peppers. Can’t wait!

Everything looks great! I totally understand about the HOA issues, we had our own incident when we first moved into our house. Fortunately the HOA president likes us! Just wanted to stop by and say I love reading your blog. I get very inspired when I read your garden posts. 🙂
