Hello and Happy Wednesday!
As a way of giving back and thanking you for showing up here on this crazy little blog of mine, whether it’s everyday or every week or just when you need to pop by for a recipe, I thought it would be fun to give away 6 unique gifts this holiday season that have brought us a bit of happiness over the past year.
Some of the giveaways will be locally made products we’ve discovered since moving to New England, some will be handmade, and few will be something I discovered long ago but still find myself using year after year {like today’s giveaway}.
These 6 giveaways are my way of saying thank you. I love getting up everyday to write this blog! So thank you for being a part of this blog, and for being here to keep the conversation going.
This giveaway is now closed.
Mavis’ Favorite Things Giveaway – Day – 1 Hand-forged Garden Tool Gift Set by Fisher Blacksmithing in Bozeman, Montana
I first discovered Tuli Fisher and his insanely beautiful garden tools at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show in Seattle back in 2014. I remember weaving my way down the aisles of all the wonderful vendor booths and then stopping in my tracks when I spied his tools. I simply had never seen a garden tool as beautiful as the ones he had on display, and picked one up immediately to see how it felt in my hand.
I went home that day with one of his Garden Rakes and when my husband came home that night I showed it to him and even he was impressed with not only the quality of the garden rake, but also agreeing it was worth every penny I had spent on it.
“Each tool is individually built using traditional blacksmithing techniques. Steel is heated to a red glow in the forge and then shaped over the anvil with a hammer. All joinery is done using solid steel rivets. And, each tool is set into its own hand turned handle creating a long-lasting garden tool with no welds. Black Walnut is used for handles. The tight grain of this strong hardwood makes it very durable. Best of all, it just feels good in your hand.”
6 years later… and with a few more of Tuli’s tools in my garden tote, I am still convinced he makes the best garden hand tools on the planet.
All you have to do to enter this giveaway is leave a comment below and let me know what your favorite thing to grow in your garden is. We want to know. 🙂

I finally discovered something interesting–I wondered why the flowers did not turn into beans for the first 4 feet or so, I only got beans higher up. Then I noticed the hummingbirds! I love to grow anything and everything but this year’s favorite was a fun experiment. My neighbor had 20+ year old Indian ornamental corn seeds that she gave to me. My boys and I planted them in a spot next to our creek just to see what would happen. They took a while to appear but, once they did, they grew and grew – reaching town feet in height with foliage tinged the most beautiful deep pink color. The ears themselves had kernels that ranged from ivory to the loveliest deep purple you can imagine. We harvested them, dried them and used them as decorations this fall – selling some to neighbors at our pumpkin stand and giving some away. We plan to plant much more of this special seed next year. One of the best things I love about gardening is this chance to see what surprises Mother Nature has in store. Thanks for the giveaway!

Hi from NC! What a generous give-away! Those tools are beautiful enough to hang as art! I have enjoyed your blog for many years. Thank you for sharing your musings and snippets of life. I’m so happy you are no longer in the HOA! Every spring when it starts to warm up, I rush to the garden center for tomatoes, basil and peppers. When I read about you starting your seeds indoors, it looks like so much waiting! I’m impatient, so I buy plants from the nursery. If I won a beautiful set of handmade implements, I would probably be able to overcome my impatience, and start sowing seeds early! Ha Ha!!
Patricia Mayhew says

My favorite flowers are bee balm. Over the years I realized that bee balm brings in all the pollinators. Some gardeners will say it is invasive however that is easy to correct by digging up a large piece and giving to friends and families or transplanting to another area.
For a vegetable it would be green beans. I spoke with the director of our local food shelf and was informed that green beans are highly prized vegetable to give away to people. Therefore, I have enlarged a new area so that I can grow more beans to give away.
Awesome looking gardening tools.

My favorite thing to grow is summer squash/zucchini. It’s silly really. They are one of the simplest things to grow, producing endless amounts of food as long as you don’t completely ignore them. I think that’s what I like though. No matter what else might fail in a given year, that is one plant I can always rely on to put a lot of delicious things on the table. It’s possible for the crop to fail, but it has always done so well for me that even when something goes after the plant, it still puts out a reasonable crop. Sometimes you just need a solid success in gardening to keep your spirits up when you have a bad year.
Nichole says
